I have two questions, for now, about the overdrive fitted to Rover P5s. First, what specific Laycock de Normanville type is it, e.g. A, D, J, etc. Second, is the one fitted to the Mk II significantly different from the one fitted to the Mk I/Ia?
As noted elsewhere, what I thought was a gearbox problem appears possibly overdrive related, so I'm on a crash course to learn as much as I can. Help appreciated.
Gordon.

I think its a A type as fitted to other large British cars of the time - Mk2/3's had an improved version with larger accumulators piston etc.
Unless O/d is siezed or its 4th gear internal operating rod bent I do not think it will affect the gearbox - it may be a crushed 4th gear selector detent spring that is prevent positive engagement.
I sdgewar box silent in 3rd/4the and neutral?
