Just trying to establish how many of you good folk are members of The Rover P5 Club. Also I would appreciate a candid reply from those who are not members, why they do not want to be part of the club? The Rover P5 Club offers members a lot more than a magazine every two months and in doing so, those who own a P5 should be able to recoup their membership fee (and more) almost immediately. As a club in todays economic climate, we must continue to look forward and react to the demands of P5 owners, especially club members. IMPORTANT REASON NUMBER ONE Insurance companies are checking the fine print on claims. Remember, if you have classic car insurance for your P5 many insurance companies insist you are a member of a P5 club. If you are not a member, your insurance is likely to be invalid CLUB MEMBERSHIP FORM www.roverp5club.org.uk/form.htm

I would like to become a member. Already wrote an email to some address. Got no reply. Will I receive at least the Take 5 magazine when being member? Thought there are problems with 'oversea' shipping of parts and other useful things on offer. Mark from Germany

I am not a member. I was looking for a P5 Coupe about a year ago - I wanted one to use as a daily driver instead of leasing a new car. I couldn't find one that fit my criteria, so I ended up leasing again. I still may be interested in the future. If I start to look again, I may join the Club.

Used to be a member until I sold my P5B Coupe to a collector in Austria. Rover is too rich for my pocket these days!

I have been a member in the past for 2 years as my car is a long term project and i cant bring it to any shows or events I got very little benifit from being a club member, and chose to to use that money to join a differnt car club that would be of more immediate benifit..
When the P5 makes it back onto the road I will almost certainlly rejoin, my insurance is fine without though as I have a Trade policy that covers any driver any vehicle up to £500,000

I would have thought it obvious that if ANYONE wanted advice and interaction with other members the very minimum would be that they are members themselves. Why should such great advice and social interaction to be made freely (edit by Mod). If no active and paid up membership is recorded and CURRENT these people must be denied all access in my opinion.

I owned a P5B Coupe briefly a couple of years ago, and am not a member. However, I do intend to buy another when space and other commitments allow, and would probably join the club at that stage. I realise it's an opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own, but calling non-members (edit by Mod) is not particularly helpful, nor is it likely to increase membership. Non-members will have various reasons for not being members, but may still have useful knowledge to share with others on the forum.

I'm glad to be a member of the P5 Club, :)met some nice people at the SARR a couple of years ago. I'm a Brit living in northern France, near Evreux. I bought two LHD 1959 Mark Is, both with seized engines.. so have a winter project. Also bought a LHD Coupé and a rotten Mark III which I have stripped. Hope to see the SARR blokes with one of my Mark Is next spring! Obviously, being a club member helps with advice and spares - thanks to Trevor Colebrook regarding dismantling my exhaust... I have also owned my P4 110 since 1983 and my P6 2000 since 1979! I also have 5 P6 V8's and an early 2000. If passing through, my e-mail is rtwak@aol.com, there is always tea and coffee... nothing else, you are driving! Regards, roger wakelam

I am not a Member as I haven't yet acquired a Rover P5 and I am still on the lookout.
It was my intention to join when I got a suitable car.
Joe
PS. - although the comments of one member above don't endear me to the idea of being a member of the same club.

Will probably rejoin at some stage as I still have a 1962 P5 3 litre in excellent condition on the road but mostly sitting in a garage rarely used over the last 2 years due to lack of time. I found I was doing no more than glancing at the magazine.PS Like some other respondents I didn't find the acid comments of one member made me want to rush to rejoin!!!!!!

I have been a member for several years, due to financial pressure I need to sell my P5 coupe. (The restoration costs were pretty high, and I have just got married!) I contacted the club to have the car listed in the for sale section, and never recieved a reply. I tried a different email, no reply. Tried a third email, and did get a reply saying that my message had been forwarded on. After that ... no reply .... The magazine is excellent, as is this website, but I was frustrated at not being able to receive even an acknowledgement from the listings person after mails to three different email addresses about getting my car listed. Alas, it still has to go, and I have been polishing it and preparing it for the MOT. I know that the club is run by volunteers, but even so, it is one of the basic services of the club. That is why my membership has lapsed!

I am member and to be honest I have found that with out the help I have got from the club my Rover P5B would still be in the strip down position I am disabled an a ex Rover machanic I have been doing most of the work myself and it has been quite a excersise. It is great to work on such a wonderful car again and I hope to be able to show her in the new year God willing and a tinny bit of luck.

I am currently not a member. Having sold my Coupe earlier this year. I am in the process of trying to buy another & when I do will join up again. For some people who have more than 1 Classic make of car (for that read 10+) to continually stay members of all clubs is not viable. I am always a member of the Club for the makes I currently own. Nevertheless I enjoy the photo's of other members cars and the forum too. Should I only be able to enjoy these when I own 1 myself? The Forum & Photos helps fuel my desire for yet another!!!!!

I have only been a short time member for twenty-three years as time goes by. I am still waiting for my first copy of the Club magazine to arrive. Before the P5 Club came upon the scene, I was a member of the RSR, but then they closed the pub (The Ghurka) so I sought monthly refuge in licensed premises elsewhere. The observant amongst members and non-members alike will have noticed that the Club's name changed a few years ago from the Rover P5 Owners Club to the Rover P5 Club (Ltd., but that's incidental). The idea of dropping 'Owners' from the name was to encourage potential members to join the Club even though they didn't actually own a big Rover. In just looking to buy a P5 or P5B, much useful advice can be offered by members who are familiar with the pitfalls (are there any now that gasoline is a paltry £4.45p per gallon?) of owning a Great Auntie. Let us all enjoy the camaraderie and comradeship of being P5/P5B enthusiasts, members of the Club, or not.

I became a member shortly after buying my P5B Coupe (June '08). I was lucky enough to be given a whole stack of old 'Take Five' magazines from the previous owner, so it feels like I've been a member much longer than the 3 months! I also appreciate the chance to meet and socialise with other owners and enthusiasts in my local area, Cambridge, so can definitely see advantages. However, member or not, a web forum should encourage and welcome all Rover fans!

I'm not a club member, but neither am I a P5 owner at the moment either. Should the latter state of affairs change, then I'd be far more inclined to join. To be honest I have a broad range of cars that I have an interest in, none of which I currently own and were I to join every club that represents them there'd be precious little cash left for anything else.
As for this forum, to a certain extent I can appreciate the viewpoint that club members are the ones who are paying to run it, so could perhaps resent us non members making use of it, and with this in mind I always try and help out with information as often as possible, and hope that in the time Ive been posting I have contributed more than I've taken out. But obviously that's for others to decide, not me!
