Next job.... I bought a new rear muffler as it had been replaced with a straight through pipe. I'll cut the pipe off and weld in the muffler tomorrow, weather permitting. I'll also weld up any existing weld holes that are currently bogged with exhaust putty. I think I may have figured out why I was getting exhaust fumes in the car. It wasn't the gap in the boot seal I fixed or the lack of window seals or poor door seals..... Just a guess, but I think it might be down to the slightly under par exhaust repairs

New hotdog welded into the piece of 2" straight pipe that was there and all the dodgy welds cleaned up and rewelded. No more leaks hopefully. Painted with high temp manifold paint ready for refitting when it's dry. I'll trim off the ends when the bumper is back on and get a couple of chrome tips.

Tried replacing the fuel pump today, not a big success. (http://roverp5.proboards.com/thread/10603/facet-electric-fuel-pump)
However, I did manage to give the old one a new lease on life.
The fuel filters didn't look too bad in place and the hoses looked quite good, in reality they were pretty bad.
The first filter from the tank was full of fine silt that wasn't really noticeable until the filter was shaken, on top of that the hoses had seen better days and were restricted.
With a new filter and all new rubber hoses the old pump is actually now very quite, a bit of tweaking with the rubber mounts and a piece of foam or similar between the body of the pump and the fuel tank and it will be silent.

Dusted off a really old set of spotlights and fitted new sealed beam lenses.

Just an observation but shouldn't it be mounted in the engine compartment as per the instructions? If the car was involved in a front end collision (the most likely scenario) the impact would immediately trigger the cut out as the switch would be attached to a rigid structure forward in the car. By mounting it in the boot, the crumpling of the vehicle will absorb the impact and may not have enough residual force to trip the switch. The thin walled, rubber mounted tank would also act as a shock absorber. The switch is pretty sensitive, it would not take a large impact from any direction to set it off.
