Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen, here's a little before-after-show. I like it very much indeed. Thanks for the radio, Peter! Cheers, Olaf

Looking good Olaf. Is it converted inside with a modern radio?

No, I removed the "old" one and replaced it with the one provided by you. While the one the car came with was actually working I didn't care about connecting yours (there's no medium and long wave radio in Germany anymore). FWIW, I recently purchased a complete set of the wooden parts of the dash (sadly, minus the brackets for the middle section), so I might eventually follow your approach and fit a proper modern stereo that stays hidden within the middle compartment. For the time being, I'm usually fine with the V8 sound. For the times when I'm not, I have that Logitech Boom Box waiting to assist. Cheers, Olaf

I have a Blaupunkt radio and center radio panel to fit on my 1966 MkIIc Rover Coupe, but cannot see how it is supposed to bolt into place. It appears that the center bar which the wood panel door attaches to needs to be removed, but I assume some mounting bracket is supposed to fit in, for the chrome radio panel to bolt to? It has two small machine screws at the bottom "L" shaped chrome bracket. Does anyone have a picture of how this goes together, or better yet the mounting pieces to sell me?

Can't (presently) help with a pic of how it's mounted, but I have a (IOW: 1) spare mounting bracket that I took some pictures of: Attachment DeletedThese brackets attach to the radio (small holes IIRC) and the console. Does that help at all? Cheers, Olaf

Yes Olaf, that does help, and I think I see how these would work. Could you perhaps send me the dimensions of the bracket for me to fabricate over on this side of the Pond? Thanks! Ken

Hi Ken,
just to let you know I haven't forgotten about you!
I'm afraid I still haven't found to fetch the bracket and measure it. I do hope that I find the time later today. I'll post the dimensions then / ASAP!
Cheers, Olaf

Hi again, here's the dimensions, all measured in metrics (sorry, imperials are alien/foreign language here in Germany! ). Since it's always a bit of a hassle to locate those tiny parts in my cardboard-chaos, I've opted to keep the bracket on my desktop, so LMK if you need further information. Just so you know: I'll be on vacation from Friday, so any query after Thu afternoon will probably have to wait until after the 17th. Good luck and keep us posted! Cheers & HTH, Olaf Attachments:

Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedHi Olaf. It turned out well. Your bracket measurements were spot-on and the radio fit well in the dashboard. Here are some pictures. Thanks again!

Hello Olaf,
How was your trip to the UK?

Hi Peter, the trip was absolutely fabulous! We had an exceptionally nice time and even though I was thinking that Luca (to others: my younger son, 20y) might get overly bored so that he might want to take a plane back home, he never did! We've met a bunch of people whilst traveling too. The ones who are also on this forum were Eric R and velvet. We started at home in Goldscheid and traveled 1.422 miles (2.288 km). The only problem was that a horseshoe broke and, as a result, the brake warning light got a little bit hysterical at times. Here's the stops (not counting in trips in between): - Brugge
- Northern London
- Emsworth (Goodwood Revival!)
- Oxford
- Dudley (NW of Birmingham)
- Bedford
- Ashford
Sorry that we didn't stop by at your place on Sept. 16th. Despite being a detour of less than 50 km, it would have gotten too late for us (we were back home at around 7pm). Next time! Cheers, Olaf

Glad your trip went well. Also good to see you visited Dudley (where I grew up - not that I'm in any way biased ), although I assume it was to visit J R Wadhams rather than a sight-seeing visit. But if you ever return, I fully recommend a visit to the Black Country Museum - a really good day out if you get the chance.

Good morning Richard! Actually we went to Dudley to visit a friend. When I started looking for a P5B I got to know Nick. He helped me out many times by i. e. judging cars I came across, telling me what to look for, etc.. So I promised him I'd eventually come up with the car so he could drive it. Took over a year but I kept my promise. And we spent a whole day in the Black Country Museum. Awesome place. A must when going there: Hobbs’ Fish & Chip Shop (done the traditional way!). Needless to say I did of course visit Wadhams and spent another ~£750 on parts. Cheers, Olaf

I'm impressed Olaf! Glad you visited the museum. The fish and chip shop does make the best chips, cooked in beef fat like they used to be.
I sympathise with your expensive trip to Wadhams. Something similar happens to me when I visit their website.

Now I need to mount an antenna for the AM radio. I'd like to avoid drilling holes, and use a "hidden" antenna mounted inside the windscreen. Vendors sell "powered" antennas, but my car and radio are POSITIVE ground. Can I use one of these or are they polarity sensitive?? Anyone else have other suggestions?

Tip for everyone with an original radio. I rcently used 'Vintage Car Radio' in Reading, Berks - vintagecarradio.co.uk/contact.html. They can convert to FM, stereo, Bluetooth and/ or just add a lead out the back to connect an ipod or mobile phone, all without altering the appearance, and reversible if needs be. Not cheap but excellent service from Chris.
