Having nothing to do on Saturday I decided to remove the wheel arch liners and give the inner wings a bit of a treat on my modern car. I am researching in to the most effective sound proofing and found a number of posts recommending Wickes flashing band for reducing resonance. First let me say I would not use this inside the car as it is bitumen based, so would smell when warm.So while the wheel arches were out I thought I would give it a try. Rather than waste a complete roll that was lying in the shed, I decided to cut a few strips and see, or should that be hear, what happened. I also added a few spare strips to the front inner wings. As you can see from the photograph, I used very little. I can report back that after a trip to La Vie En Bleu on Sunday, both I and Anne were somewhat surprised at how much difference it made, considering how little was used. Travelled home in the rain, when the water splashing up from the wheels would normally drum on the liners, there was far less noise. I am now considering taking them off again and completely covering the liners with the flashband. If you do decide to have a go, the cost is about £13.50 for a roll which would be enough for all four liners. Recommended.

I think he is talking about his "modern" car which comes equipped with them.
