That's a real labour of love going on there. Its gonna look awesome when completed I have no doubt about that. Probebly better than when the car was new. Well done.

Thank you, maybe the outside will but I’m going to see if I can keep the interior original apart from the arm rest and stitching that needs sorting and new carpet to be fitted

Im sure with your skills so far you will achieve your aim. My interior is 100% original and in excellent order apart from the front seat foams that need re-doing. Other than that im leaving it well alone aprt from regular cleaning.

My radiator arrived today so I can now put a bit of time into getting it running as gearbox pipes where obviously disconnected and would have had fluid everywhere

I removed the oil filter today and primed the oil pump with grease, bolted it back together connected the battery and nothing, no dash lights etc i was slighlty confused! So out came the booster pack and still the same, out came the volt meter and had 12.53v at the battery! Fuses checked all ok! A few head scratching minutes later and realised we had cut the main feed cable when prepping the sills as I’m fitting a main cut off switch anyway! Several minutes later ‘Houston we have ignition! ‘
A few checks that we have oil and nothing in the way of fan etc I turn it over and about 10 secs later the engine note changed and the engine slowed as the oil pressure gauge flickered what a result!
I fitted distributor cap back on after checking for spark at points, spayed some go go juice into the carb mouths and first turn of the key it fired into life!
unfortunately I had to go home as we needed to go shopping for the new kitchen appliances today!
Tomorrow I can get the radiator plumbed in and put some fresh fuel in the tank for the first time in 28 years and hopefully drive it out of the workshop for the first time!

Got to work early and started on the rover, got the radiator in place plumbed in the transmission pipes, cleaned out around the thermostat housing as was full of oxidised aluminium, went to fill the tank with some premium unleaded and we had removed the filler and flap! Gggrrr
A few minutes rummaging about and found the hose and connectors although the rubber connectors where a little hard, filled and cup with hot water and that soon sorted those out, fuel in and spin it over to see if the pump was working and nothing, filled the carb float bowls with fuel and a few coughs so I removed the dashpots and cleaned needles and made sure all moving freely bolted it back together and tried again started first turn of the key and ran on about 5-6 cylinders until the bowls emptied! Still no fuel at the pump! So removed the filter and poured fuel back down the fuel line to see if it may lubricant the pump
Removed the float tops tops again and filled with more premium started it again and ran for a few minutes and ran out of puff! Getting a little bored with this I thought, I knew I needed to fill the box up with some fluid so went to the shop to buy 5 litres of the lovely red oil! Got back put two litres in, yet again refilled the floats started it up and fresh fuel started to come out of the fuel pipe, connected it back up and started it again and it ran on the 5-6 cylinders then got smoother as the lifters filled with fresh oil!
I ran it it for another minute then jumped in the drivers seat and put it in reverse which it engaged smoothly and started to move under its own power for the first time in about 28 years, opened the workshop doors and jumped back in and put it into drive and went out into the daylight under its own power what a good feeling! Although there is still loads to be done the fact it will move in and out of the workshop without being pushed, (that isn’t possible when your on your own) will hopefully make the progress speed up this year
once get the mk2 Jag painted this week hopefully I can get the wings primed and finally get the silver birch back on the body! Here’s hoping!

I managed to get it out of the workshop last weekend, a little spay of fuel down the carb and fired up straight away but still runs a little rough which means I’ll get the carbs rebuilt
I’ve also sent the airbox and and pipework off to be powder coated

I actually can’t believe it’s been a year since I last posted! Unfortunately nothing has been achieved on the rover BUT this weekend it will be moved out of storage and into the new workshop to hopefully be painted next week, I can then get the dreaded windscreen fitted which in turn means the interior can be cleaned and re-fitted
today I connected the battery and after a few turns of the key it spluttered into life although on 4 cylinders! I’ve ordered a service kit so will fit that on Saturday as that is the planned day of movement
ill keep you posted in hopefully less than a year lol

New plugs and leads fitted and it runs no better than before, I didn’t have a chance to compression test each cylinder but maybe have a go this week, whilst I was searching eBay today I bought a rv8 engine for £80 which I can strip the heads off to rebuild and hopefully just rebuild the top end on the original engine as it doesn’t smoke or rattle so a top end build should suffice I should be able to get the doors off and prepped and painted by Wednesday this week so look out for fresh pictures at last Attachment Deleted

Today I checked the compressions on the cylinders and all around 175psi so checked the leads and all round the wrong way so whoever some 28 years ago had been messing with it and got it all wrong after about an hour I had it firing on all cylinders at last at least I can get it moving under it’s own steam easily

The new inlet manifold arrived today so will get that bead blasted as the original one has a broken water way near the carb inlets, small steps but they all help
still not painted yet but getting closer

It is not chrome but stainless steel. I am just in the process of renovating mine using polishing wheels, coming up very nicely too.
