Firstly, it is quite normal for the green light to flicker when idling when thin oil is hot in a well run in engine
Secondly, no harm will be done and an albeit temporary improvement will ensue if the spring is lengthened OR a spacer washer inserted
Thirdly, an oil and new filter change regularly at 3000 miles absolute max (20w/50 high quality oil) will, unless the bearings are knocking, give very many more 1000s of miles of unsurpassable superb motoring

I see the advice of oil change every 5000 km. is this because the engine leave so much deposits compared to modern engines, which can run upto 20.000 km between each oil change ? The handbook states oil change every 5000 km, but that is based on oil technology that is 70 years old. Modern lubeoil has greatly improved performance compared to formulations in use in the 1950 and 1960'ies.
My engine has normal operation of the oil pressure light when cold. As it warms up, the light comes on at low RPM. Perfectly normal, it will seem.

I remember my uncle buying mk11 3 litre new in 1965 from Mann Egerton London road Derby and calling back there [with me in car] to ask about flickering light at tick over and was told, Nothing to worry about its normal they all do it. I have also owned [over the years] about five 3 litres which did it along with the ignition light glowing bright and dim at tick over.
