I have a P5 Mk2 with a bench seat.
Would it be easy to install a set of bucket seats from a P5 Mk3? I know the individual seats in the Mk3 differed from those offered on the Mk2, but I don’t know if the mounting points were redesigned. Does anyone know if would the necessary mounting points be present in the Mk2 - or would some engineering be involved?

bobh, yes it can be done, and i've done it. But its a lot of messing about, you will need to re-drill the front fixing holes where the runners bolt in the floor pan and re-position the rear fixing brackets on the sill part, then you will either have to get yourself a pair of rear runners fixing brackets for the tunnel part from a p5b donor, or make some up yourself, and after all that you will still have to pack washers under the MK111 seat runners to get the seats to sit level in the car.

Thanks Velvet - I was starting to think not, and your advice has helped. I don’t want to muck about too much. Besides, there is something charming about a bench seat - so rare these days!

Bench seats are of course the reason why many cars of the period had excessively worn outer edge of driver's side tyres. The seats were known as "SOB" or "slide-over-baby". Seat belts have rather taken the fun out of that one.

What about the rear seats?
Will a later model moulded rear fit in a Mk1?

As long as you fit the saloon seats together with its rear parcel shelf I would say yes more easily than the front seats but I have not tried it

I don't know if they were an option as most Mk1's have the front bench seat? My rear seat is held together with duct tape, if I'm going to replace it it may as well be with a later one.

Separate front seats were an option - the bucket seats both reclining and fixed backs were used in P4's well before Mk1 P5's This type is entirely different to the MK3 and P5B moulded seats especially the frames
