Good evening, I just registered as a new member and I like to introduce myself. My name is Wilfred, 55 years old, living in The Netherlands in a town called Breda together with my wife Brigitte and two sons, Jesse and Bjorn The reason of registration is that I have the possibility of buying a 1963 Rover P5, mark II My present car is a 1979 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 Series 3 which I bought eight years ago. Doing most of the maintenance and repairs myself. With this as a background I hope to have enough experience to start this new adventure. I'm also a regular visitor of the UK, so this might help me in finding addresses for possible spare parts. I'm also very curious about the P5 techniques and what to expect. I will see this particular P5 tomorrow for the first time, it's been imported from the UK in 1979 and has hardly been used since. It's been stored inside a garage all this time and the engine did start without any problems. As you can see on the pictures the car still has an English license plate, maybe someone recognizes it, who knows. Thanks, and I hope to give an update soon as a new Rover owner (I cannot seem to upload pictures yet..) Foto 1

Good morning,
Yesterday I had a good look at this Rover P5.
I couldn't discover any serious rust problems, the car was very dry and solid. That seemed to be okay. The problem is that this car hasn't been used for 39 years, the engine did run a few years ago but couldn't be tested at this point. There was no cooling water inside and also the water hoses were partly removed.
Secondly, the car has to be stripped completely on the bottom side, I would have to remove the power train, brakes, brake lines/pipes (is this the correct word for it ?) springs, etc. As all this isn't reliable anymore after all these years with a big gab of maintenance.
Conclusion, I'm afraid this is no project for me. The price is okay though, 3250 Euros, but for me I think it would be better to spend a bit more money and do the "normal" maintenance jobs rather than a complete restoration like this.
So, a bit disappointing but I think it's the right decision for me.
Thanks for the support so far and I will keep on reading on this forum of course !
Cheers,
Wilfred
