I have driven classics my whole life as my normal everyday and most cases only car.
I am used to fixing them on the side of the road, improvising (amazing what you can do with a bit of foil from a gum wrapper, rubber bungs from Grolsh bottle tops and cardboard!) Of course I maintain them properly to keep them reliable.
With this in mind I have tried a few times to sort out the washer jets which even the previous owner spent money on a replacement Lucas washer pump. To no avail it hardly wees over the bonnet never mind the screen. I replaced the pipes with new, I purchased an inline pump to put beside the washer bottle, so it looks original and yet a mere dribble not even a drunk would be proud off?
Last night I was messing with something else and decided to try again. Hmm better just clean the pee spouts. So in a jar of thinners and careful cleaning with a sewing needle, good grief it was like 52 years worth of tar in there!
Anyway cleaned up both and now I have a military grade water cannon! It washed the windscrewn the roof and my face as I was peering out the side.
I forgot the basics - start with the simple first and never assume someone else has already done this first!
I am thinking of painting a big UN on the doors and hiring out to the military, point the jets forward and I have an excellent crowd control vehicle.

You are not the only one !
I did more or less the same thing with a Triumph Stag and managed to destroy the washer motor. Amazingly I found a new motor at an auto jumble. The early Stags had the same washer bottle as our Rovers, but the later ones had a different one. With the jets cleaned out she was back to normal.

I have to say I have never been impressed with Lucas stuff as a rule. I could probably wire in the original pump now but since I purchased my fleabay cheap chinese pump motor I want my moneys worth.:-) Any pics of the Stag? Cool cars.

No - sorry, not at home at the moment so variable internet. Also my camera takes pictures that are too big for most sites, but the stag was Russett Brown, not ideal but a good 70s colour.

We dont mind brown. Is that the same colour that Dolomites came in also? Always remember a friend had one in that colour with lovely beige/ corded seats.1500hl think it just disolved in the end, shame. I was at Capesthorne Hall last weekend for the classic car show , they had a few Stags not least a nice purple one. Pretty sure it does the rounds looks good. Probably at Tatton Park classic car show this weekend also, hope to go tomorrow sadly not in the Rover, waiting for manifold gasket delivery. Should have made one from cardboard like I used to ! 😀😂

Never assume anything, least of all as you get older. I spent a fair while the other day looking for my glasses and when I passed the bathroom mirror realised I was wearing them.

The earlier ones did look as if they had been bombed by a flying cow with a dodgy tummy ! Incidentally to take this really off thread it reminds me of something that happened 40 years ago, when I was working on a farm. A little calf was having breakfast from his mum, but unfortunately from behind rather that from the side. She decided to 'let go' and the poor little chap was covered in it. She turned to look at him and went 'mooooo', as if to ask 'how did that happen ?' - not very bright - cows !

... - not very bright - cows ! Just as well, too. You could get quite tired of eating chicken and having water on your cereal.
