As 2018 nears completion I've hopefully resolved an irritating fuel leak from the replaced fuel lines.
Time is stood still for me until I can replace the carpets and refit my refurbished seats. I think I'll be spending January and February wire brushing and tidying the underside if I can work out a way to jack the car up high enough to fit my oversized turkey filled belly under. Interested in checking out some of the buzzweld products for this.
Fingers crossed ( and I've said this before) 2019 , new carpets and 4 new tyres should see my old motor back on the road after a 26/27 year lay up!
The fun is in the wait right?
Merry Xmas all!
Barry

Lean back hard if they have not been used for some time. They seize and should spring back forward again with some force. Try some PlusGas around each end after removing pivot covers. The WSM gives the adjustment procedure is dismantling required and there may be some pics still on SEARCH if you have PB link

Hi Brendan thank you for giving me an excuse to go out to the garage and sit in the Rover I really enjoyed it what with the feel of the seats and the smell of it too, I got so carried away I nearly forgot why I went out there in the first place. The good news is the Rover is fine and the bad news is that I have no idea why your recliners don't work. Mine need the lever lifting right to the top to move it but they don't spring back that readily so it may be lack of use. Please feel free to send me out to the garage anytime you like I'm quite happy sitting out there wishing my life away until springtime.
All the best for the new year

Cheers Phil and David. I will try them both again and I am currently thinking about going for a short drive in mine as its a lovely day outside and the roads are dry and quiet too.
Velvet has also replied to my enquiry regarding a future possible re-trim and the recliner issue.
David, I would now like you to go to your Rover and stay there. Just get " da missus " to bring you plenty of hot drinks and food. LOL
Regards to all.

Not long been back from a drive out in mine. The roads were lovely and dry as well as sunny too. Joanne and her folks came along for the ride also and we did about 20 miles in total around the local Swindon roads and down the A419 duel carriageway. She purred along lovely and we got many admiring smiles and a few waves too which was nice.
Took some fresh pictures of her too and popped round to see an old guy I know who loves the old cars. He used to work at Pressed Steel Swindon back in the old days where they made the panels for the Rovers.
She is now back in her garage all safe and sound and no doubt she will get another polishing this week to get the FIRST drive dust off her flanks. LOL. I also drove her right up close and personal to the brand new Jaguar/Landrover dealership in Swindon so they could all see her through those massive glass windows.
She drove really well too on her brand-new set of 205/70/15 white band Maxxis tyres.

Took covers off and sprayed some WD40 on the bits and operated the big levers in turn. I could see the cog moving and there is NO damage or splits in the metal arcs either. As you mentioned it was probably due to lack of use/movement over the years. I shall move them regularly from now on to keep em free. I was so pleased I gave her another polish with my Autoglym quick detailer spray. LOL Regards, Brendan

Beware WD40 as a release agent - its only White Spirit and very good for dispelling water. Plus Gas is far more effective for seized items. However, it did work - best to Silicon spray to ease them more and longer lasting.

Never heard of this Plus Gas stuff Phil?? Please enlighten me with a picture of what it looks like. cheers Plus Gas is a brand of 'release agent', ie for rusted nuts/bolts etc. Comes in aerosol cans, similar to WD-40. In my experience it's much better than WD-40. A lot of people use WD-40 for lubrication but it isn't really a lubricant in that whilst it often seems to work it quickly evaporates. I do use it but much prefer Plus Gas, as, it would seem, does Phil. Sorry, don't have a picture but it's widely available.

Very tidy indeed and the cars colour really allows it all in there to be on show too. I plan for my engine bay to be as clean in time.

Finished winter cleaning and servicing today with the rear brakes. The '02' was the year the shoes were last replaced, so they have done about 50000 miles - good old asbestos ! The exhaust has been on for about 35 years and is a Langfords. The spring gaiters are leather and have also been on for many years.

Looks awesome under there lagain. Are those spring covers still available at all?? my rear springs are quite new so it would be wise to keep them looking the same for as long as I can albeit ive already cleaned them and I wont be looking at driving her in poor weather anyway just like the 2 previous owners never did.

Thank you ! When I first had her back in 1975 I sprayed every where with Waxoyl, including under the bonnet. It took ages to get it off all the important little places when I started to show her, Cannot be bothered with showing any more but like to keep her looking nice. The spring gaiters came from www.wefco-gaiters.com/Before I fitted the springs, which came from Wadhams, I took them apart and greased the leaves. Not sure if it makes any difference but at least they will not rust.

Interleaf greasing should also improve the ride George as it reduces interleaf friction.
NB. Another way to do the above is to jack the rear of the car up enough to take some of the load off the leaf springs (there will be slight leaf separation) then wedge a flat bladed screwdriver between the leaves. Grease can then be applied interleaf with a spray can or physically introduced. I do this about once a year (depending on car usage) using moly grease.
You'll find that once the car is lowered grease will ooze out between the leaves...so will need to be wiped away. It certainly does improve the ride and reduces interleaf abrasion. Of course there are no gaitors fitted to my car...no need for them in my environment.

You could always make your own. I used 2 inch DPC roll available from any builders merchant, just a case of cut and roll to suit and cable tie in position.
N.B I used graphite grease on mine.
N.B. It's messy
N.B. LOL

Took my Rover out for another drive today as it was sunny and dry albeit very cold. The heater was crap TBH so looks like a full heater system refurb may be on the cards.

I ordered a few metres of black vinyl cloth from a trim suppliers and used that and tie wraps to make mine - I also used graphite grease initially but soon moved to the cheap stuff when I ran out!!
