Where did your tyres come from as I may need some myself I might fit the next size up ie 195s The brand I have bought are Maxxis M-A 1's with a white band on them which I wanted. Size are the exact same as the tyres which came off my Rover which were 205/70/15's BF Goodrich. You should be able to source pretty much any tyre you wish these days via your local tyre fitter garage. Bathwick tyres are usually very good so I would suggest you try them if you have a depot local to you. Today I have also been busy again and done a lot more preservation top up on the chassis and ive also applied one coat of Silver hammerite to the insides of my Rostyles. I also rust proofed the rear side of my rear bumper too which I removed yeaterday. Its all go you know. LOL Best regards,

Applied a second coat of Silver paint to the insides of my wheels today and then removed the spare wheel carrier tray OFF the car, inspected it, cleaned it and painted that with a new fresh coat of Black Hammerite and also applied a nice fresh coat of Silver paint to my exhaust rear silencer as it was looking a bit tired albeit 100% solid.
I must say the chassis underneath the tray was MINT and totally free of any signs of dirt and or rust. Perfect but it will get a fresh coat of protection there too.
Im gonna have a rest for a few days now before I get high on paint fumes. LOL
Ive also just spent £1000 on a stack of new items for my P5B saloon so I think im off for a good lie down now to recover from the hype. LOL.
Cheers

Not a lot today as still recovering from yesterdays expenditure at Rover parts London and JRW but I did manage to paint the other side of my spare wheel carrier today and de-mask my wheels after painting the inner rims Silver.
My emails are telling me to expect multiple parcels over the coming days which will be all my bits and bobs ive ordered amongst other items ive also ordered too.
Got an email today to say my new set of " period " old style Black/Silver number plates are on there way to me. Once I have them I will let you all know who the company is if this is allowed on here as they still ONLY use all the old fashioned methods and presses to make the plates up which were used back in the old days.

Cleaned off the blue wax on my new white band tyres today and fitted both N/S wheels back on the car. They look great.
I also bought a set of those chrome wheel rim embellishers which arrived today and although they look absolutely fantastic and a perfect fit on the Rostyle rim they are actually plastic chrome and sadly the tangs on the rears don't stick out enough to hold them on the rim tightly. They were only £30 but I think I will return them to the seller and buy the Stainless steel set he had for £69 as these will deffo grip a lot tighter on the rims.
I also fitted the NOS/OEM Rover P6 front mudflaps to my P5B and I have to say they also look fantastic and very sleek and discreet they are too. I am happy as Larry with them.
Started mine up too for 20 mins as not had her running for nearly 2 weeks now. She fired up lovely after a few cranks and I just let her warm up on her own steam while I carried out a full light check.
Just waiting for more Hammerite to arrive and then I can proceed with the drivers side wheel arch areas and sills and then all underneath.
Spare wheel carrier has come out a treat too with all fresh paint both sides.
Got guests this weekend so will have a few days off and just wait for all my parcels and new bits to arrive from JRW & Rover parts London.

So much for taking a couple of days off. LOL.
Well today I finished off painting the underneath of the boot floor and then re-fitted the spare wheel carrier tray.
My Satin Black paint arrived so I re-painted the lower flank underseal lines in Satin Black then re-fitted the front bumper along with my badge bar.
Removed rear seat complete and opened up the 2 x inspection access holes for the tops of the rear shockers. Loosened up all the shocker bolts ready for when my new OEM/NOS pair arrive in the week. Quite easy to remove the rear seat TBH and gave it all a good hoover under there. Fuel tank and all associated items around it look mint and perfectly preserved along with the factory card tags still on the wiring loom which was cool to see.
My spare wheel cover arrived today so ive applied that over the spare wheel in readiness to put back underneath the car so it keeps it all nice and clean.
My new pair of period pressed Black/Silver number plates arrived too and these are awesome it has to be said. I will post up details of the company I used for others if they wish to use them. Made with " old skool " techiniques and presses. Just perfect they are and I am looking forward to fitting them soon.
Just my big order to arrive now from JRW and my new shocks and then I can settle down and get stuck in to fitting it all over time of course. My new set of door/boot rubbers I will leave until the spring when its warmer.
At this rate she will be well and truly ready for next years shows I attend in my area.

LOL Regards, Brendan This may ruffle some feathers but I would argue that black and silver number plates are not period for our cars. They are a choice, they were correct for the 3 litre but reflective plates were first issued in 1968, soon after the launch of the 3.5 litre and what better way to show the neighbours that you had a new car, with of course those Rostyle wheels. At rallys over the years I have noticed a decline in reflective plates and for a time I had black and white on mine, but they were not correct as my car was delivered on reflective plates. There is also the possible safety factor of the rear of the car being more visible at night. Incidentally all cars registered after 1 August 1975 had to have reflective plates.

Without wishing to be pedantic, I'm fairly sure that white/yellow plates were required on cars registered on or after after 1 January 1973. It was changed in c2015 to a later date for historic vehicles, at that time 1975, however, I haven't checked whether it has subsequently been updated.
Therefore, the very last P5Bs would have been required to have been fitted with white/yellow plates when first registered. My recollection is that the majority of P5Bs that I recall from new were fitted with the 'then-latest' reflective plates.
However, it's a matter of personal choice now that the rules have been changed, although I'm not really clear why they changed it.

My recollection is that Tony is correct although I do recall some people still using the black and silver pressed plates after 1973 Ripponden District Transport springs to mind for one although I never knew why they did. My Rover a 71 came to me with black plates and white plastic letters and after a bit of consideration I changed them to black and silver pressed plates from Jessops in Sheffield who said I was OK to do that and they look the part.

Our current 1972 P5B was registered Jan 73 and had the then-mandatory reflectives and it still sports its original rear one. A late 72 P5B I broke had its original black plates with white plastic numbers. Our first 1969 P5B a Barclays Bank Ltd company car had reflective but our April 68 P5B had its original black plates as reflectives were not introduced till a few months later.
Certainly new reflectives in place of the old battered black plates were a popular "upgrade" for secondhand cars from the late 60's - my dad and me did them on all our cars. I even fitted them to my 1957 James Cadet motorbike
So black is certainly not period for the few P5B's registered 1.1.73 on even though its now quite legal as goes with the Historic status rolling date. Both black and pressed plates were the cheap bottom of the range just above painted and stick on!
As long as its legal who really cares as a quite a few upgrades eg tyres/ ICE/ unleaded petrol are not period

As Phil states, It don't really matter as long as its legal and its a personal choice too which is why I changed mine for the ones I now have which IMHOP I think they look stunning against the cars colour and chrome work.
Lets not forget those 70's rainbow black/silver plates too which ive seen a lot of on P5's and alike. Very groovy back in the day but not now and certainly not my taste. Maybe on a beech buggy yes. LOL
Currently sat looking through my viewing window doors at my P5B and deciding what to do today on her. Finish my brew first I think. LOL

When I changed my registration number from WOD 175K to SPN 20, in 1975, I went to Macrae and Dick in Inverness and asked if they had any P5b number plates. The chap brought a box out from under the counter with the correct plates with the black 'wings'. I had just one and wonder what happened to the others - probably thrown away.
I chose SPN 20 as I had SPN 22 on my first car, a 1960 Morris Minor. In retrospect I should have put the number from the Morris onto the Rover as only a few years later she succumbed to rust and went to that great garage in the sky. I still have the number though.

Those old personal plates are probebly worth a few quid today.
Refitted my rear bumper today.
Fitted new coolant temp sender switch.
Painted all my Rostyle wheel black centres.
Finished off painting the left hand side sill in Satin black.
Removed radiator/fan metal cover in preparation to rub down and repaint and apply new labels I have from JRW.
Ran her up for 20 mins and new temp sender works a lot better now at the dash guage.
It all starts again tomorrow. LOL

Very nice indeed under there. In time mine will look the same. Can I ask who, where and how much did those braided brake flexi hoses from??? I plan to replace all of mine with the same too as I swear by them. I currently have them on my Aston Martin and also a set of H.E.L's on my daily driver dayvan and they sure do make a difference under foot/pedal feel when braking. They look nice too I think. Today ive been busy again too, 1. Fitted new Hardura mat set. 2. Fitted new OEM/NOS rear mudflaps which arrived today. 3. Fitted new rubber bungs to boot lid stops, bonnet stops, boot lid locking catch, & bonnet side grommets. 4. Prepared radiator fan guard for fresh paint and warning labels. 5. Fitted new under dash trim panel. 6. Fitted new rear axle breather valve. Regards, Brendan

Yes, they are Goodridge, been on some years now but still look as new. If you replace your water hoses you might be interested in these; www.classicsiliconehoses.com/our-products/Just scroll down to Rover. I have a set, infact I had the first set as they used mine as the pattern. I understand they last indefinately and they look good.

The Old Girl is in the Carcoon for the winter did the normal service clean and lay up procedure plus a good polish, standard brake hoses must be 15 years old now? original Shocks, I must admit I miss seeing the car in the garage but she is better off in the Carcoon no condensation

I was reading about brake hoses recently, and some people believe braided hoses are a bad idea as the braiding hides any cracking or ageing from being spotted. Each to their own as always, but I went with a standard set when I replaced mine this year.
