Having had the wing mirror holes welded up when my car was resprayed, I am now trying to fit door mirrors instead. I have purchased new mirrors, but they look like they need some sort of base to attach them to the doors. Is this correct?

those I purchased had a rubber/plastic tray between the paintwork and the chromed mirror stem which you fit to the car and sit the chrome part to it.

The best type would be those fitted to the P6. They have an integral base with two screws into the door skin.

My P5B saloon has NEVER had any external mirrors fitted to it which I plan to change soon and have 2 door mirrors fitted which I plan to buy from JR Wadhams.

My car has wing mirrors located a long way from the windscreen. Their mirror glasses are flat. So they are are effectively useless. Several years ago I was lucky to find a pair of chromed electric door mirrors on eBay. They are Australian-made Lukey brand, which were sold in the late 1960s and into the 1970s as after-market accessories. Therefore, they look the part and belong to that era, and in my opinion, have originality status in an Australian context. Can't wait to fit them. (Can't wait to drive the car again!)
And while on the subject of originality, my car is fitted with air-conditioning. Not fitted by Rover, but it was installed under the direction of the Melbourne Rover dealer/importer, immediately prior to the car's delivery to its original owner.

In Rovers with the quarter vents - remember that although they are useful on the driver's door, the n/s passenger one can be next to useless if the quarter light dissects the mirror! Might be worth making sure this one is clear of the metal post before you decide where to place the driver's one!

Please can some one who has door mirrors fitted possible post up a good picture showing the correct area to mount them as I plan to buy and fit 2 soon.

Here is a picture of my Rover P5 Coupe with door mirrors. I believe these are the P6 type mirror. The passenger side mirror is somewhat blocked by the quarter light stainless steel post, so that I have to shift slightly in my seat to get a good view to the rear. Driver side is completely clear though, and general overall view is good and functional. Attachments:

Many thanks for the reply and pictures showing the mirrors. What a lovely example you have there. Love the white band tyres which I now have on my P5B saloon.
I noticed something hanging down on your rear drivers tyre??? some sort of bracket??

Ken is correct to identify his as P6. Very similar are available new, try google 'Classic car mirrors'.

The 'bracket' that you can just make out on a magnified view is actually a brace for the Lokari inner wheel well guards ( www.lokari.de/en_GB) that I installed on my car (1966 P5 Coupe) to keep out mud and dirt. They are made of aluminum and fit very nicely. Too bad Rover didn't use something like them originally and my rear fenders wouldn't have rusted so badly before rebuilding the car.
