Chatting with an old mate the other day we got to reminding each other of various dodges and strokes that we pulled years ago that we would not do now (honestly officer). My car dealing mate was quite well know for speedometer resetting. Usually achieved with an electric dill on the cable or sometimes by dismantling and twirling the numbers round with a pencil. He often bought cars at a local auction and was keen on a Ford Cortina,in nice order but a reps car with inter galactic mileage on the clock. Despite fierce bidding he drove it back to the shop and withing minutes the speedo was out for adjustment. On the back was stuck a handwritten label. It said simply " Oh No,not again".

That's an old joke that I have heard told many times by many different people. It probably never happened.

Warwick. I see what you did there. I've owned 48 old Dodges. When I used to rebuild imported Honda autos, a Kiwi salesman was asked by the Japanese importer. "How many kms you want me to do?". "Don't bother". When it arrived in NZ, it'd lost 80,000 km. The auto was toast of course. Good for me but.

That's an old joke that I have heard told many times by many different people. It probably never happened. Im not used to being accused of telling lies. The clue is where I said he was well known for altering mileages,he had told various people that he would be bidding on the car and someone decided to play this old joke on him. Thats the end of my involvement on this forum.

Written and spoken words sometimes are not received as intended Kevin. Please don't stop your invaluable contributions to the Club and forums from authors who probably didn't mean to cause offence. How often do I have to re-submit a question because I haven't made it clear the first time.

There is always someone somewhere in this world who will say something without thinking about what they have said and then end up upsetting folk. Just ignore it I say. Regards,
