As there are errors in the workshop manual section EEE2-1 regarding the lengths of the linkage rods could I suggest that the correct information be made available to forum readers via a "sticky"?
Only the dimension for the vertical rod is correct as published in the Workshop Manual.
The correct data was published by Rover in Car Service News Letter #32 (Feb 1972) item 382.
Vertical Rod....197mm (7.750inches) Tie Rod.........419.86mm (16.530inches) Operating Rod...543.81mm (21.410inches)

I knew the figures were wrong in the WM, but as I have always set the linkage up without reference to specific figures it was never a problem to me, the vertical link being the easiest to do, but with the figures you quote for the other two I'm interested to know how it's possible to measure accurately to a hundredth of a mm, or a thousandth of an inch, when on the car anyway.

I suspect Rover expected their service personnel would use their calibrated eyeballs in conjunction with their double jointed vernier fingers! Me, I would use tape measure and common sense!

I do wonder if the WM was deliberately inaccurate because they knew it would be virtually impossible to measure to that degree of accuracy anyway, so it was up to whoever was doing it to work it out for themselves, you know, like the instructions in meccano sets used to be.....
