Hi All, I am totally new to the world of the P5's, apart from a couple of vague memories from when I was small. I remember climbing up into the back of my Grandad's P5 and the cold leather touching my legs where I had shorts on, I can still smell the leather as the door opened. As I walked past the front of the car I remember thinking the grill was a tall as a tree, and so shiny! I felt amazing being driven in the back of it, how proud I was to be seen getting out of such an elegant car, I was 5 years old at the time. I am now 39 and what an impact that car had. My neighbour turned up in a P5B yesterday and it got me thinking about my Grandad's car.... I asked my mum and she gave me the reg No, I checked if it was taxed, tax overdue - 1/4/1998. I HPI checked the car, it's not scrapped..... I would love to find it and at a minimum take a photo of it, but ultimately buy it back if possible. My Grandad owned the Blue P5 with registration No 84HCY for 20 years. He bought it in 1965 and sold it around 1985 (for £2200). He lived in Enfield, North London. I have one picture of the car (and Grandad - he passed in 1993) please see below. I have started the quest to find the car here....Does anyone know where the car is or where to start looking? Does anyone how to look for a car like this as the DVLA will not pass any log book information of the owner? Thank you in advance for any information you could give me. Kindest, Adam

I hope you do find it and this and Facebook are really the only options open now. Just because its on the DVLA and HPI records does not mean it has not been scrapped though. Especially from that period.
It may be on the P5OC or Rover Sports Register but they cannot release names/addresses without permission
Good luck

You could email membership@roverp5club.org.uk with the reg number. Geoff can tell you if it is, or has been registered with the club.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the information and help.
I am totally ready for my search to be ended quickly, by finding the car was scrapped in 1997 but never registered with DVLA. As sad as that would be, I have to try.
My 1st step is to just find out if its still alive. If I can find that out, then I can try and locate it (somehow?!). I see you have a meet at the beginning of September so am going to bring my one photo there and show it to as many people as possible. Hoping for a little bit of light.
Thanks again for those links, I will follow them up now and see what I can find.
Cheers, Adam

Thanks, I plan on going to meet the Dorset guys at the Horton inn one Monday night, its not far from me. I am an on call fire fighter in Shaftesbury and drill is a Monday so hard to get the time off. Car has never been registered with the P5OC. I wrote to the DVLA today requesting information on the car but i assume I will get nothing from it. Worth a try though...... Thanks for all your ideas on this, if you have anymore let me know. Would love to see that car again, 34 years later Adam

So..... A friend of mine works for an HPI company and ran a full history check today. "There have been no insurance quotes in it on HPI records for years." Truth is, it's not been on the road for 22 years. The Jury is out........ Either its rotten in a garden/scrap yard or good condition and stored in a barn/garage (and probably not for sale anyway). No idea where to go next, other than door to door and checking in every over grown garden and barn in the UK!

Some might say that's the best place for a Rover Metro.... Although two of my mates had MG's growing up and I have lots of fond memories of those.
The wife posted the picture of my Grandads car on Instagram and tagged P5 Owners and Rover owners.... Still hoping to find it, rotten or not!!

Blame the doo gooders and GDPR mate coming in. Before all that rubbish you could write to the DVLA and pay £5 and get all the previous and current owners addresses for any car. Sadly all now gone.

As I said previously. On the other hand would you like your information passed on to a stranger years after you have moved on? How about someone showing up at your door with information about you or your property? I think the nearest we have is like if Government was asked a question about you, Government might pass the request on to you for you to respond to if you wanted to. The same applies to this club who will only publish information about a member that the member has agreed to.
