Not that I'm jealous or anything but I take comfort that even this beauty is one tool short in the tool tray! The sill repairs look a bit odd. Interesting that only 2 MoT test are recorded by DVLA (April 2016 and 2019). Where has it been all this time (apart from not very far!) www.classiccarauctions.co.uk/rover-3-5-coupe-p5b

Add in the buyer's premium and at least two people must have really wanted to buy that.

Looks a nice car from the pics, no pictures of the running gear etc and who gives the star ratings? the Satin Black has certainly been done recently and not very well, plus the new owner will need all the seats re-foamed so a few more £££'s to spend.

If it's the car I think it is then I spoke with the previous owner a few years ago at a show, the milage is right, the colour and the trim too but im only going on his description as I never saw it but I do remember the conversation we had about it. Big bucks though phew!

Good to see that at last our cars are getting closer to the value of similar luixury models.

The rear door/sill, drivers side has an odd gap at the bottom, and the seats foam has started to dissolve hence a few wrinkles. Its nice but personally I dont think 40,000 pounds nice. Obviously at least two people don't agree and one of them parted with his money to prove it. Each to his own.

I guess it's good that one Rover P5 has reached that price and logically it will be reflected on other P5s that come on the market, but it is the one offs with the right provenance that reach these prices. So it does raise the question just what is the going price for a very nice and tidy Rover I know what mine stands me at and I'm happy with that but were I to sell it would I get my investment back, probably not as it hasn't got the right provenance.

At the end of the day David a car is only ever worth what someone wishes to pay for it. Over the last 40 years of my own personal car life I have lost money and made money on my cars. Its all swings and roundabouts.
If a car meets someone's needs and expectations then they will indeed pay a premium if its exactly what they want and or if all avenues have been exhausted and only a few nice/mint examples are on offer. It took me nearly 25 years to find mine and I settled for mine a last off the line example 73 M model simply because I could not find a mint and available 1969 model so I opted for second best and it just turns out TBH I am extreamly happy with my purchase, the price I paid for her and the money I have invested in her to date which in time will go up and probably up some more because I know deep down when the time comes for me to part with my P5B saloon whoever buys her will be buying a minter which will want for nothing and that's what folk will pay the extra for. Provenance can help and in my cars case I have a complete and detailed history of my car from the original owners 30 years and the second owners 18 years and now my ownership but its not all that at the end of the day with these cars today as folk do realise and accept that not everyone back in those days kept everything in a file for the future owner/s.
Ive not seen your car David in the flesh but I do know and can tell that yours will be a great example and like my car has been and will be preserved and highly maintained for the next custodian who ever that maybe and when. Hopefully not for a long time yet.
Regards, Brendan
