I have dismantled my grill for rechroming. The vertical centre appears to be a 'brushed' finish. Is it satin chrome?

Sam - the centre vane is a real pain! I think it is an alloy I heard called monkey metal. It has all the appearance of being a satin anodised aluminium but it isn't. Neither is it traditional primed/painted finish. I found that even a low-tac masking tape pulled off the coating. I bought a NOS vane which had an oily appearance. Only option was to strip and prime/undercoat and top paint with a silver satin appearance and while it was being done I took the opportunity of having the original one treated as well. This I have as a spare but if anyone is in the same situation that I was and would like to make use if it, I will take it to the National next month. This is my original before i tried to re-paint the badge - the damage you see is before i masked the badge with result further base metal exposed around it. prnt.sc/ou9pacThis image is taken against the light. prnt.sc/ou9o2d

Thank you chaps. So it is aluminium. There is a process to chrome or nickel plate that. A satin finish would seem to fit the bill. Shall try it and let you know the result.
