I finally got to the stage to get a new carpet for my Mk1a 3 litre, I decided to go with JR Wadhams. He was contacted and got back to me saying due to the rarity of my model I'd have to send him my old carpet in order to use it as a pattern to make the new one. Fair enough, so this morning I stared removing the very tatty carpet, all was going well until I got to the rear bit. I'm unable to remove this part due to the bolt that secures the safety belt (Anchor) going though the carpet. (see picture) The other side (driver side) simply unscrews but this side has a bolt and it's very stiff and just goes around and doesn't even get lose. I really hope it's not the case that the only way to removed it is from under the car due to a nut on the other side! Unfortunately I don't have the means to accesses this. I might have to book it into a garage to get this done. Any suggestions!

You can try levering the bracket twixt the tunnel turning the bolt at the same - this may just work but its easier to see what is happening underneath first

Just had it done, just a simple nut on the the other side, strange that the driver side seat belt anchor is screwed into a thread. Attachment Deleted

I don't know what year your car is but it might be due to the fact that seatbelts weren't even an option originally, and perhaps when they became available your car was initially retro-fitted with just a driver's belt and the passenger belt fittedby someone else later. I can recall several cars fitted with either just a driver's belt or mismatched front belts, as if done at different times.
