...... a '96 Nissan Crew Galue.... Paul. NZ. This got me thinking, Paul. The earliest strange choices of names for a Japanese car, that I remember, were the ... Nissan Cedric Suzuki Mighty Boy Mazda Bongo Van ..... and more recently Subaru Legacy Touring Bruce Toyota Alphard Executive Lounge (Ugly isn't a strong enough word) Toyota Vellfire Executive Lounge Please add to the list.

Saw a car called a Raum a few days ago. Can just imagine the conversation,"What do you want to call this boring pile of junk?" "Dunno" "What noise does it make?" "Raum, raum, raum" "That'll do..."

We had a Mazda 7 seat people carrier, they pushed the boat out when they thought of a suitable name for it........ ............................ . The Mazda MPV.
In all fairness it was a great car and had it not dissolved we would still have it.

Ouch. Not only do I own a Nissan Cedric, a Nissan Laurel, and a Nissan Galue, but I also own a Toyota Raum. Now granted the Raum may be an unusual looking machine, but it's eminently practical, very well built, and has a massive amount of room for a vehicle 8" shorter than a Corolla. It also has a massive rear hatch that will take 8 wheels and tires, and 2 auto transmissions. I've imported 6, and 5 went like hot cakes, the new owners reporting zero (!) problems. Keeping the last. (Raum in German means Room, or Chamber, hence the name.) How a car may look doesn't bother me, as I also own a 1962 Dodge Dart, and THAT is an acquired taste.

Almost forgot, but saw one today. They're not uncommon.
Mitsubishi Delica Space Gear.

Mitsubishi Pajero.
Apparently “Pajero” is a pejorative in some languages.
Let’s just say it refers to a blokes’ “personal time”...

Legendarily, the Mitsubishi Starion (built to compete with the Ford Mustang, and with a horse as it’s mascot), was a misunderstanding by a marketing exec of a Japanese chaps pronunciation of “Stallion”.

Are we, faithful Roverites, really able to criticise, though?
3.5 Litre, 3500, Three Thousand Five?
A Coupē with four doors, at a time when a Coupē was generally accepted as being a two door?
Confusion still reigns amongst the uninitiated. Poor B****rs.

Not to forget Rover 3 1/2 litre, which it was for a while, IIRC.
