Not sure if this has been covered before, but for a long time now Ive been after a Richard Burton film called VILLAIN set in the early seventies and which features a P5B as his car. Well as luck would have it i got a copy and sure enough the Rover features heavily in the film. So my question is does anybody have or know of .. HXC 802H Burnt Grey/Silver Birch Coupe? I would have thought it was a loan car from the factory, brilliant gangster film with Burton playing an unusual part, lots of well known actors like Ian mc Shane,Donald Sindon,Colin Welland etc. If it's not too late , and you want the film, ask nicely and Santa may bring it for you for Christmas. Merry Christmas my fellow enthusiasts, Kev.

Kev, you are probably right about it being a loan car from Rover, as the reg XC was allocated to Solihull from 1964 to 1974. Where is the film available from now you have whetted our appetite? Regards

Great film. If I remember right he plays a gay gangster but is as hard as nails. Not a bit like camp Freddy from the Italian job.

;DAlso a low budget black comedy made in the 1990's set in a chocolate factory! The P5B a white Coupe was trashed driving throughfileds and a haystack Cannot remember the name at the moment. Roger Moore in The Man Who Forgot Himself drove the P5B (Bordeau red) at really high speeds - just the job

Yes some of the high speed work and other shots in the Roger Moore film were excellent. They seem to have used 2 P5b's in the film, and a mocked up 3 litre for the crash scenes!

Don't forget: To (till?) the end of time, grey P5b saloon Boon series- Episode with scots woman as the baddy, baddy bloke called Doogie...silver birch b coupe high speed chase and high flying through a haystack. Shooting Fish- p5b Plus an old Christopher Lee film -can't remember the name but he is the baddy and he ploughs his dark P5 into the side of an austin 1100 or something in order to make contact with his 'victim'.
Oh and I almost forgot- I bought villain and the man who haunted himself from HMV, they ordered in for me for about £7 each about 5 years ago..

I think I can remember that when Danish Television broadcasted the Inspector Morse episodes last year, there was an episode where an elderly gentleman drove a P5B. I think he was supposed to be headmaster of some sort of school. - I am not sure, though. Yoy know : 11 o'clock in the evening on the sofa and the eye-lids are dropping and then I woke up and saw Morse's Jag besides the P5(B). I shouted so loud that my wife woke up as well !!!

The bloke in Morse with the Rover was Richard Briers in a very bad black hair do!
I can recommend watching 'Life on Mars' on BBC1 Monday nights for the next few weeks - set back in 1973 - lots of nice period cars from Saab, Triumph Herald and Toledo, Vauxhall Vivas and Victors, Transits, etc - a friend of mine provided a P6 in the opening shots too. The story line is very good.

Here's one you missed! The Big Sleep, starring Robert Mitchum, Edward Fox, Joan Collins etc used a P5 Coupé fitted with Rostyle wheels as one of the villain's cars. The film used the car in a shot outside a Soho club, on the road in a tracking shot, then blew it up in a finale shootout! Best of all, a DVD version of the film was given away free with the Mail on Sunday a few weekends back!

I watched an episode of McCloud last night on ITV3, and noted a Mark 1 P5 (White) being used by one of the villains. I wonder why "our" cars always seem to be run by the guys in the black hats!

;)For those in the fortunate position to watch TV on wet afternoons, unlike me slaving away earning the wherewithall, there was a 1965 Mk11c Coupe in Charcoal Grey in a film on Channel 5 this afternoon. It was a biopic - the Patricia Neale Story and starred Glenda Jackson and Dirk Borgarde. It was actually made in 1981 but set in the late 60's. According to my better half the film (a true story) was quite good as were a number of shots of the Coupe. The actors slammed the doors and boot lid!!!
