I have found a better way to search this forum. I have been using this forum since day 1 and was a strong supporter of the move to this platform but as comments indicate am not alone in my frustration with search. Tonight by accident I found a better way to search. - Click into the section you want to search
- Click on the Search button next to the page indicator top or bottom left( will only work after page has fully loaded)
- A new window opens as a pop up.
- Type in the search term and hit search
- 25 results seem fine as it has no date filter
- Can only search 1 section at a time but usually can get an idea of where to look
- You can use this facility to search a thread also by using search at top or bottom left
- Only the search on the top menu has the date requirement I guess because it has to shift through so much data.
Probably some of you knew this, But from the comments it seems many didn't. So it is better to stay away from the search at the top and use search on the thread or section. Hope this helps. If it does! could admin make it stickyRegards

Yes that does seem a better way - the only problem is that some threads do not always keep to the subject and the subject is not always properly relevant to the topic, possibly because there are too many and split between the P5 and P5B's when it may apply to both

I don't know for how long this forum has been active. But if you search like this, in all categories at once if you like, you will get even very old results: days = 0 ! hours = 998877 = 114 years Thats what I have found out after struggling with search for months. Mark

On other forums I use, there is a 'view new posts' button which is very useful .... but I can't see one on here.

There is the link at the bottom of the page that allows to view the most recent 25 posts. It is in the section Forum statistics.

possibly because there are too many and split between the P5 and P5B's when it may apply to both "I think it is wrong to separate out the cars into two sections, ie P5 & P5B. There are so many components common to both and I find myself faffing about between the two sections. They need to be amalgamated with say the engines, gearbox and possibly bodytrim separate."That's what I said on 17 Feb 2005 and I haven't changed my mind. Not that anyone listened then. I agree with Phil, topics often drift, which again hampers searching. And another problem with searching is the standard of spelling on the forum. It often horrifies me to see such a cavalier attitude to communication. As a school governor I cannot believe that educational standards have fallen this low. Anyway, spellchecker is there to help.

I can see that whether or not to have seperate areas is a difficult call ... probably no perfect solution to that. As for spelin, I allways maik shore my spelin is corect ..... The last 25 posts feature is very handy .... but is it possible for there to be a button for this at the top of the page (Yep, I'm very lazy!). The more user friendly the forum is , the more it'll be used.

I can see where you are coming from Peter but it is difficult to separate the two Marques, the P5 alone has so many mechanical and interior differences. In regards to spelling etc! I think we suffer from today's Texting Syndrome I use Google Chrome and no matter where I use text it does a spell check And yes topics sometimes tend to wander off subject mainly because the members on the forum are a good humoured lot and like to chip in

On a more serious note though ... It would be a lot easier to search if everyone chose the subject of a new thread more carefully.
For example when searching, "OMG it flew off" as the subject of a new thread is not as helpful to others as "Tensioning flywheel bolts".

I love the addition of the "These are the most recent topics you have participated in:" section just added to the forum.
That and the 'Most recent 25 posts' link make the forum very, very useable on a daily basis.
