Glenn, I have a spare pump and steering box that you can instal as a temp until you sort out with Wadhams if you wish. Can't gurantee they'll work but if it means yoiu can use your car...... I'm not a million miles away from you either.

That's really nice of you. I am currently trying to get something arranged with another member. I will be in contact if the need arises. Goes to show how useful this forum is and the help that is offered. Many thanks again

John Wallett has offered me a spare steering box and pump to use until mine is sorted. At least it is good practice to remove and refit. Many many thanks to John Boy and again sincere thanks to eastmidsrep for his offer.

I am about to fit the box and pump John Wallett has offered me, but need to have some advice on cleaning out the pipes and pas resevoir. What would be the best method?

Hi Glenn I would take the resevoir off wash it out with something like petrol/thinners? you can at the same time flush the rubber pipe then blow it out with an airline and change the filter, the other pipes use whatever you have to get some petrol/thinners? through the pipes and use the airline or just the airline at high pressure

I'm at last back on the road. Fitted the steering box and pump that John Wallett helped supply me with. Changed the inner and outer track rod ends.(will get the tracking done) What a difference! The steering is much more positive.I had more travel before but now it feels so spot on. I bled the steering box, or I should say it bled itself, I put a bleeding tube on the nipple and when I started the car up(front wheels raised off the ground) it blew the tube off the nipple. Anyway all seems fine, no leaks. Still have not heard from Wadhams! I sent him an e mail today asking what progress was being made with my knackered box. If it were not for John Wallett I would have been totally up the creek. Many thanks to the replies and advice given. Glenn's tip. I found if you spill ATF fluid onto your beloved driveway, washing powder absorbs it and then it can be swept up. I have the nicest smelling driveway in Potton. Dirty clothes for the rest of the week is the only downside, so it's off to the Laundaromat. From the movie "Villain"

I have heard from Wadhams, he wrote "Your box has been dismantled and a leak path was found under one seal into the upper chamber that pressurised this area causing it to hydraulic the internals. This leak path is not unknown and is an occasional weakness of this seal variant used in your box or may have been triggered by some ingress of dirt. There was no evidence of any swarf anywhere as you reported, but the engineer has seen swarf/particules trapped inside banjo fittings over the years and wondered what type of swarf/filings you had seen. Also some can be produced under the bottom drop arm due to some minute end play and remain trapped without doing any harm. Anyway, you will find your box has been reconditioned at no further expense to you and the problem area improved. Because of this I did not send off the pump to the other reconditioners as this was not under warranty anyway and would have incurred costs. I suggest that you change the filter as a matter of course to be sure" Well, I call that a result

That's the kind of service you have every right to expect, but all to often don't get. It's good to see JRW stand by their work and do the right thing in the event of problems which can and do occur. You've got the right result and their reputation hasn't suffered, it has if anything enhanced it.
