Hello everyone
The editor of a well-known classic car magazine has asked me whether there are any P5/P5Bs out there with ex- or current celebrity owners. Do you know of any - and ideally the current owner?
The ones I know about are the Queen's and Alexei Sayle's (although I don't know who owns the latter).
Any hints will be much appreciated either here or directly to pr-officer@roverp5club.org.uk.
Thanks
Peter

Roald Dahl's log book for his P5B was sold on EBAY last year for circa £150 I think. I can't remember who bought it but the name sounded familiar........ may have been David Green. I sure he will comment if I'm right!

Oh no, not the cult of "celebrity" here as well. Stand by to hear that Jade Goody or some other coarse, talentless scrubber once sat in a P5 without her kn****rs on.
Forget all that stuff. Let's stick to celebrities (or should that be cognoscenti?) only within the P5 world.
My vote's for Phil-Nottingham...."The Man Who Knows"

When I visited David Green a few months ago he had a P5B Coupe that he was getting restored for the actor Paul McGann (above right). Don't know if you remember that late 80s movie 'Withnail and I' with Richard E Grant (above left) set in the late 60s and featuring that tatty old MKII Jag? Richard.

How about the famous Harold Wilson P5..but I don't know if you'd class him as the owner?
Nick Ashley of Laura Ashley fame had a P5 that was transposed onto a 4x4 range rover chassis and running gear some years ago.
And a friend of mine told me years ago that he saw a P5 that was reportedly owned by Jimmy Savil. Apparently it had a leather headlining and JS embroidered into various parts of the interior (which was also a different colour). That was hearsay though, I can try and find out more?

Stand by to hear that Jade Goody or some other coarse, talentless scrubber once sat in a P5 without her kn****rs on. Errr...., actually I'd rather not know... Dirk Bogard starred as .... Roald Dahl? in a biographical film that featured a P5 as the main characters car. If anyone can remember better than me (not difficult) that's one that could be tracked down, maybe? Then there's the P5B saloon's from the "Man Who Haunted Himself" with Roger Moore. Doubt if they were really written off. Finally (for now) the P5 Coupe in "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" belonged to one of the actors I believe.

As to the Dirk Bogarde one you are correct - I posted a thread on this topic about a year ago. This was in the Film cars topic that went on for a few pages! I think it actually belonged to his wife who was a famous US actress. Whether or not this was just film-makers license though I do not know.
Actually like the late Harold I do not own a P5 any more!

This has come up before, but maybe some newer members were not aware,' VILLAIN' with Richard Burton features a lot of footage as it is his gangster car.

Well Jade Goody has made a movie. She is currently in India promoting the film. She has also stated that she has nothing against the Rover P5(B) and if she said anything to upset it's owners then she apologises. ;D

A burgundy P5B featured a great deal as Roger Moore's motor in the imaginatively named, The Man Who Haunted Himself.

Brilliant, Glenn, brilliant.
In fact, the quality of celebrity P5 ownership shown by this thread has been remarkably high. No coarse talentless scrubbers, but lots of talented actors and writers. Suppose it shows that P5's were always owned by persons of quality and distinction....(as they still are, of course)

A couple of episodes ago, Life on Mars had the top cop driving a P5. I also thought it was an almond P6 in Lock, Stock. Vanguards certainly do a model with a Vinnie Jones figure. Maybe there were two Rovers in it And that Nick Ashley car is, I believe this one: Lairy doesn't even get close! You can see it in situ at www.moorfieldsv.co.uk/extrapage.htm
