You've obviously got too much time on your hands Glenn. You need to get yourself another P5 to restore!

I also thought it was an almond P6 in Lock, Stock. ....... Maybe there were two Rovers in it Certainly were, sorry for the confusion:- The P5 was used at the end when the guns were removed from the boot, and thrown over the bridge. The shot was at night but may have been Burnt Grey.. Will check, but think it was Eddie, Nick Moran's character wot dun it And Glenn, where are these cartoons coming from? My email account is going to be shut down as SPAM the number of people I'm sending them on to... ;D NOT a Jade fan!

I thought this was about celebrity owners not p5s in films? If its P5s on the telly then theres shooting fish, To the end of time and there was an episode of Boon where the baddies had a silver birch coupe that did a high speed chase and ended up doing a spectacular long jump through a field and landed in a haystack...The baddies were this mad scottish woman and a sidekick called Doogie if I remember!

But she only used Harold Wilson's left overs from the ministry car fleet/pool. Some said she was glad to get rid till she tried exiting graciously from the back of the low slung LWB Jag XJ6 (or was it a 12?)

Probably far too late - my usual 3 yearly check up on how the club is doing! I used to own XXC 509K a silver birch/admiralty blue coupe that was registered by Rover, who (after after having an electric sunroof fitted) used it as a show car (at, I think, Earls' Court). It was bought from the Rover stand at the show by John Waters (sp?) (AKA Jack Warner/Dixon of Dock Green). I sold it in the mid-90's to a club member in Brighton. Other famous owners include Alexei Sale, who brought his black P5B coupe to the national rally in 1989 or 1990 (and presented the prizes) and Matt Johnson (of "The The" fame) who owned a white saloon in the early 90s. Art Malik (the actor) approached Ely Services wanting to buy one, no idea whether he ever did or not though.

I started work in 1979 in Westminster and remember often seeing Mrs Thatcher being chauffeured around the Victoria Street area, the car was black or dark blue and looked regal with what looked like thick bullet proof glass fitted. As an aside the lower ranks and others were chauffered in Black Austin Princesses (wedge shape) and the drivers used to hit 60mph over Westminster Bridge to clear the engines throats of city traffic.

Ministry Rovers were all black - the Gaydon display one (with Harold's pipe rest) did not look to have bullet prof glass in it. The high quality West of England cloth upholstery was stained and also burnt from sparks from his pipe too!

XXC 509K was regular national and regional rally attendee (as well as going on a club trip to France) when I owned it (very good and solid, but not quite concours ..... I enjoyed driving it too much for that!) in the early 90s. Unfortunately the last time I saw it was when it was driven off by it's new owner some time around 1993 - keeping it running whilst trying to finish the convertible (now owned by Roy) was more than I could afford on a Civil Service salary! Would love to know what's happened to it. Admiralty blue/silver birch coupe, electric sun-roof, badge bar, GB letters on the boot, front headrests and non-standard (smoked perspex) visors and missing the roof coach line.

The smoked polaroid perspex visors were fitted to Mk1 saloons - being a squared version of the P4 versions.
I have fitted some to my 3 litre Coupe as the padded ones are not really very good on such a steeply raked screen

Phil, obviously we weren't the only ones who didn't much care for the padded visors, I found the perspex ones on a scrapyard 3.5 saloon, knew they weren't standard, but they looked so much better!

With that registration it could have a history with the factory.

Harvey, see my earlier post. The car was registered by the factory, then used as a display car at the Earls Court motor show. Factory registration was confirmed by the BMIHT certificate, it is guesswork how and when the Hollandia electric sunroof was fitted (before the show or after) and how the car got into Jack Warner's hands, but he was the second owner (after Rover themselves). When I owned the car, in the days before the internet, finding out more required more time than I had. Nowadays, it would probably be possible to find out fairly easily what dates the 1971 Earls Court motor show was and compare that to the date that Jack Warner registered the car, to see if he bought it at the show (as I was told), and maybe even get some clue to when the sunroof was fitted.

Sorry, i obviously read your earlier post but had forgotten about it, and as I don't re-read from the beginning each time, thats the reason. I've probably made the same posting earlier in the thread.............
I had a P6B with the same "XXC" registration, that spent its first two years registered to the factory.

I currently own a 1972 P5B Saloon in Arden Green with Buckskin. Original owner was John Lewis Ltd of Piccadilly. After contacting the company I received an email in response informing me that the car was used to chauffeur the Chairman, one Peter Lewis upon his appointment.... I later was to discover a crystal decanter and two glasses in the centre compartment between the rear seats....
Slightly O/T....I need to change my username due to change of car....how do I do this ?
