Old thread, not to worry. Joined just recently, although I have been a Rover owner since I bought my first Rover 90 at the age of 18. It was a 1956 model and, quite frankly, a disaster in most respects. Mind you, knew nothing about cars of any type, so that was probably 90% of my problem.
Back in 1969, I bought one of only seven P5s imported to Australia with the four speed and overdrive box. I know that four of those seven succumbed to rust and other issues, so my IIA model is a very rare survivor. I still have that car, in the process of restoration, as well as a MarkIIC being restored for a friend of mine, and I also have a Mark III that is also the subject of restoration. The last two named are being converted to 4 speed with Laycock overdrive.
When I refer to restoration, I can sum up the tasks completed up to this present juncture. They are as follows:
Full 2 pack repaint on all thee Coupes completed. IIC Admirality Blue, IIA same, but with slate grey roof. III two tone Almond (P6) and Crème (P6 again).
All three in full leather Interiors, including door trims and centre pillar sections. IIA Grey (Bridge of Weir), IIC Crème and III Caramel - the last two named I used Austrian hides. Presently, the name escapes me, but beautiful quality.
Mark IIA (my original P5 purchase in 1969) and Mark III have new Webasto sunroofs.
Front and rear suspension renewed on all three cars, Gearboxes and engines rebuilt, Diffs. rebuilt, plus a host of many other items that have been rebuilt or reconditioned.
I will endeavour to upload some photos in due course. Regards Styria

Hi Warwick, you can add another v8 saloon to the list. I've had mine for about ten years, bought it half restored and as the body completely rust free I decided to continue on although it has developed into one of those slow ongoing restorations. I'll have it finished one day. It was my daily driver here in Canberra and suprisingly there are still a few about. After a bit of a lay up I have decided to get the ball rolling and finish it once and for all. They sure stand out these days and although parts are getting harder to find, or rather only available to those who are part of some secret click, I have decided to carry on regardless, I'm going for a four link rear end, ditch the wobbly front end and graft on a proper double wishbone/coil over/ rack and pinion set up. once the 5.7 LS1 v8 is installed. I'll leave the interior alone though save for some clever electronics instead of that dodgey old Lucas stuff. I don't mind altering the originality of these cars, as some of the design was a bit daft. I think its about time these lovely old barges shrugged off their stuffy old image anyway. happy grafting Daniel, Canberra

Hi Stryia,
I've added you and your P5s to the list. Thanks. Just realized what your username means. I've never seen it written before. Just hear it a lot these days - of course.
And I'm confused by your 2nd post. Are you saying that you're Daniel?

Hi Erik, Congratulations on your acquisition. I've added you to the list on Page 1. You'll find lots of helpful tips and advice on the forum. However, a word of warning. Be very careful when viewing the restoration thread of one of your countrymen, Peter. roverp5.proboards.com/thread/8219/new-purchaseOtherwise you are likely to come away feeling somewhat inadequate.

I'm in New Zealand and I have: 1961 MkI probably for parts. 1963 MkII in ok condition that's used occasionally. 1965 MkIII that's scruffy with a diesel engine and used every day. So add me to the list of colonials please.
Thanks Oscar

Yep it was a nice day and tomorrow should be as well so I will do some work on the Rover. Wheel alignment, fix the speedo and maybe start on replacing the door rubbers. I remember when I was a kid in Christchurch some times you could see the smoke in the air from the Aussie bush fires 1500 miles away. Oscar

Welcome to the forum, that looks lovely. It must be a rare sight in Germany.
Are historic vehicles exempt from your low emission zones? I remember having to purchase one of your green windscreen stickers (for a new car) when I went to Germany a few years ago, and I've left it there in case it's needed again.

Thank you very much, Tony! I'm happy you like it! Fortunately historic vehicles are exempt from our low emission zones - even if there is a regular discussion to abolish the exemption. After several years the emissions in the city centers where empirically evaluated. The result? Surprise, surprise - no improvement at all... Why? The emissions are mainly induced by the industry, by the farming in the outskirts and by heavy loads. And, of course, probably by all those Volkswagens we have, that extrude a multiple of the emissions they claim - hahaha If the german MOT knew, that I am running my Rover on LPG... <script type="text/javascript" src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/d6eabd95/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js"></script>

It looks to be in beautiful condition. Can you tell me more about your LPG system? What mixers does it have? Is it dual fuel or gas only?
I've added you to the list on page 1 of the thread, where you'll find other owners in Germany.

Hello! Just joined the Forum. My brother Phil and I have a 1961 MkI Left hand Drive in pretty good shape. Previous owner did a lot restoration, we've pretty much maintained it for the 7 years we've had it. Our Step-Grandfather was an original owner of a US 1961 P5, so we grew up riding around in the back of one. His car rusted away in the mid 1970's, so we were thrilled to find this one in 2008.
