Can someone tell me where to get a set of Chrome wheel nuts for my Rostyles , or if nuts from any other cars are the same because some of them for Rovers are beyond a joke for price. You could almost get a wheel with a new tyre on it for the prices some are asking norman

I took advice on them. The tensile strength varies quite a bit.
The JRW items are pretty good when compared to the originals, may have got something a bit cheaper but if the parts are good I am happy to pay a bit extra.

IIRC those are the correct length for the P6B 3500S.

I just measured an original wheel nut and the eBay ones are 10mm longer. Which brings me to say @%&^#+ 'cause I paid for a set yesterday!

I would drop him an email Paul and cancel I am sure he would understand! I should have checked the length sorry I have emailed him and asked if he does the correct length I will let you know. I have just measured some original nuts they are 33mm to 35mm my replacement ones are 38mm

It's probably a bit late to cancel John - but I imagine I will be able to move them on to a P6B owner that is running the SS hub caps.
While Googling this afternoon I accidently came across a specialist trailer supplies business in sunny Queensland which in addition to innumerable trailer parts, also sell 7/16 unf closed end chromed wheel nuts with a length of 35mm. They look identical to the original P5B nut, are the correct length and are only $1 each (plus postage), so I ordered some. It will be interesting to see how they fit and look on the P5B. I can't see that they would be unsafe to use on the P5B - do you? To my minds eye, holding a wheel on a trailer hub should be no different to holding a wheel on a vehicle hub. Regards.

I have just measured 2 original nuts for the purpose of making some SS ones and the measurement across the flats is 23/32 or .71875 or 18.25625mm so what can we say about replacements Stainless Steel stock will have to be 3/4" or 19mm! 23/32" NO chance

Thanks to Phil for locating the original thread for the "Y" bushes. A very strange end to the thread as it just seemed to die a death with no resolution They are available from JRW but are not original. They are "bonded" but not made as per the original bushes. A great pity that the club never pursued this and we rely too much on others IMHO for some some things and there are some suppliers that exploit this.

An update on the $.99 chromed wheel nuts. I received the nuts to-day and can confirm that they are the correct length, fit the wheel studs beautifully and look great. Sadly, they are not suitable for use (proving the adage that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true). To check that the new nuts were seating correctly I removed a wheel and applied prussion blue to the bevelled hole in the rim. Test fitting a new nut showed only about 10% contact between the bevelled face of the nut and the hole in the rim. Conversely, the original P5 wheel nut shows 100% contact across the face of the nut. Given this, I feel that it would be unsafe to use the new nuts. Closer inspection of the nuts confirm that the P5 wheel nuts have a slightly rounded bevel instead of a straight one as is the case with the new nuts. The end result for me is that I am $20 poorer and a little wiser.
Regards,

That's a shame Paul for sure a flat surface on the wheel would not be a good idea, the ones on Ebay you ordered will look OK and be safe! only a few mm too long.

Thanks John. I'll wait to see how the longer Ebay ones look - but expect they will be like pinnochio's nose.

Hi guys, I wish I'd seen this thread before because I could have told you that was going to happen! I looked into new chrome nuts last year with a local specialist supplier of automotive trim, wheelnuts etc etc. I took him my old one and he told me just by looking at it that they were no longer made with a concave seat. What he did show me was wheel nuts like yours with a flat seat but also small donut adapters with a rounded seat that mount on the stud before the nut. I think the cost was somewhere between 70p and £1 per stud (no good for concourse).
One thing worth mentioning is that he warned me off stainless nuts completely saying they are prone to coming undone. The reason being the metal is too hard and doesn't 'bite' like mild steel or alloy nuts. I'm not sure if it proof but I almost lost a wheel on my manta earlier this year when the stainless locking nut dissappeared whist I was driving along. I've NEVER had that happen before.
I can look out the details for the supplier if anyone is interested.

Just to say I have driven over 7000 miles this year on Wadhams stainless steel nuts well not his personally but those he supplied with no problems what so ever, so hopefully loose nuts are rare, droopy ones get more common as the car gets older though I wouldn't know as yet ;D

I moved the Post here as it is more of a mechanical discussion than body work or interiors!
