I spoke to quickfit sbs today regarding mounting the upper mounts. They said my parcel shelf was non standard as there is normally no void, but I was to use box section steel with a hole drilled through it where the bolt will go. This is to spread the load. It all makes sense and will be simple enough. My concerns is though that I have a non standard shelf. Anyone agree or disagree? Attachments:

Insn't that bolt equal to the front ones (static)? Those where the belt clips on? A photo of the original instalation would be great. Miguel

The rear seat belts were factory fitted? I thought they were all After market

Hi Cyf, I thought you could get the rear belts factory fitted, but i have no idea. You are probably right. any way, by way of an update, i got longet bolts from Quickfit SBS and they advised me to use 25mm box section steel in the void. this will spread the load more than spacers. I have a 300mm length of it sitting in the boot awaiting cutting and shaping so i can use as long a footprint as possible and fit the curved section of the parcel shelf. I hope to get around to it this weekend, but with 3 small kids, it maight not happen.....I will keep you posted.

Rover Co would fit almost anything for a price but normally they were a dealerfit option. The later years cars were virtually hand built to order anyway due to low volumes so it was not a big issue

I finally fitted the rear seat belts. I had to get 50mm long bolts and use 30mm box section steel to fill the void under the parcel shelf.
I am not going to post photos as I think everyone should make their own decisions on how to mount them based on professioal advice - I dont want anyone to do what i did, have an accident, rear belts fail, and then blame me.
Quickfit SBS advised me on how to do it as i bought the belts from them. Therefore, my only advice is when fitting belts use NEW ones so you are sure there are no hidden faults and then avail of the "free" advice the seller give you.
Great to have them fitted as the kids can travel in style now ;D

I bought new static belts from quickfit sbs. I am dubious as to how easily the blanking screws in the lower wheel arch area will come out.... I might freeze them and heat them first before I go apply any amount of force. I expect the other to be not so bad due to location, but I am sure sods law will apply. How did you get on ? Im starting to fit seat belts tomorrow , any tips would be appreciated .

Hi Baldrick the bolts size is more of a worry to me . Guess there imperial or AF Which makes sourcing seat belts from a salvage yard a challenge for me . Unless i re thread them. Dean You might be surprised Dean. I have this vague recollection that seat belt anchor bolt threads were one of the first areas of international automotive standardization. They have always been the same here regardless of the age or origin of the car. However, that may only be as a result of local design rules (ADRs) which applied to locally manufactured and imported cars. Hammer and chisel seems to be the tools of the day, two done one left . The holes arnt metric ,,,

Mostly done , could do with some longer bolts ive left the parcel shelf off until i get them. . The head of the bolt supplied in the kit i bought was a sloppy 17mm the shank a little bigger then 12mm . What size bolt would this be in old money ?

Hi Dean, the bolt thread is 7/16 UNF. 55mm length will be long enough to pass through the shelf with a spacer, longer will be OK as the hole is not blind. Steve

Sorry, I never saw your post. I will measure mine later , but allow about 20mm longer/ thicker than the parcel shelf shelf and the belt bracket.
