I'm hoping to take the plunge into P5B ownership following the recent sale of my impreza. Many years ago i owned a couple of P6's and always wished I'd bought a P5. My wife and kids are smitten with the cars, although the former is terrified of what I'll end up buying
I've found a car I'm interested in, but to be honest have no idea what I'm doing. I've read through the buyers guide which has lifted some of the fog, but my lack of confidence remains. Ordinarily i would phone the AA/RAC and get a car buyers report done, but methinks this may not be appropriate or the best option. Can anyone give me any practical alternatives or help. I would be most grateful.
The current owner has sent me a long e-mail detailing the cars condition and i have access to some pics albeit i don't know how to link them to this thread.
Thanks in Advance
Adam

Have you got any pictures of the car? You did the right to check out the buyers guide first its a good place to start. What is your location? if you ask nicely there mite be a member close who will have a look with you.

Pricey
It does look nice, the seller has given me an honest appraisal of condition by mail ('A few tiny rust bubbles in corner of bonnet and edge of boot and a rust scab on OSR wing). The interiors has been retrimmed and varnished and apparently the underside is very very good, as is all the brightwork.
The car is up for £6k and in Northampton. I've spoken to the vendor and he is around from about 2.30 on Saturday afternoon.
If someone could possibly spare some time that would be fantastic.

It does look very smart and must have had quite a lot of refurbishment. If the history, mileage and, most important of all, the trimming has been done to a high standard, then £6k looks cheap to me Look particularly at the quality and finish of the carpets and the seats. It is sometimes better to have the original with the patina of age than replacements which rarely match the original quality. You will have to scrabble around the dark corners as all sorts of horrors can be easily hidden on these cars as shown on the buyers guide

Hi everyone, I am the owner of the said coupe for sale, and also a member of the club. The hide on the seats matches the pattern of the originals, and in my humble opinion is of a very high quality. I don't have the invoice for the work done on the seats, as for some reason the previous owner who paid for it to be done didn't put it in with all the other bills ! Never the less, it must have cost at least three thousand pounds to do. When I took the car to the eastern region rally at Wimpole Hall in August, every one I spoke to agreed it was an excellent job.

I'll keep quiet as I woudn't want to say any more as we have two interested parties on the same forum You two will have to come to your own financial settlement and I'll keep my thoughts to myself!

The car looks a stunner I would just go for It.I bought mine with no MOT and surface rust as It had been In a garage for some time.Even If It does need work then It Is a car which looks worth having-don't waste to much time thinking about It-you may just loose the chance to own what really looks like a good one! p.s I'm Impulsive by nature!

Just got back home!
Did the deal this afternoon. I left a deposit, and pick it up next weekend. Now need to sort out insurance, a cover, and find someone who can give me an idea of what if anything needs urgent attention. ;D
Did my best to use the info from the buyers guide, hopefully I've bought a good'un, not perfect of course......

Dave Thanks, always wanted one but years ago went for a P6 3500s because i could afford a nice example whereas the P5 was just that bit far out of my price range. As for attention, I 'enjoyed' a lot of it in the Impreza I've recently sold, albeit not always welcome Steve I certainly will, I hope to have it back home Saturday afternoon, are you local(ish) to me (New Malden, Surrey). I need to find a good local garage if you have any suggestions, as my idea of getting my hands dirty extends about as far as cleaning the wheels (and i did the all the checks before we bought it god help us) I have a feeling that may rapidly have to change, I'm already considering flushing the radiator which I feel is very New Man of me. ;D I'm sure i've done the right thing, but i'll be a lot happier if someone who knows a cambelt from a fan belt looks at it without a furrowed brow.

Hi Adam,
I'm in Twickenham, other side of Kingston bridge so about as close as you can get without actually being in New Malden!!
Drop me an email when you get it weekend and I'll happily have a look at your new toy for you - I took a long time searching for mine so should be able to put you right. I can also recommend a good garage about 15-20mins away.
Cheers,
Steve.
