This is kind of a continuation of another thread: roverp5.proboards.com/thread/8284 , but since this thread has another topic, I will post it separately. I have had problems with detonation even under light loads, which I cured by reducing the compression ratio slightly with thicker modern head gaskets. Well, I thought so. It is at an acceptable level here in flat Denmark, but I have just returned from holidays in Bath in the UK and it was not acceptable at the long and steep hills in this area. I had to force it to lower gears and creep up the hills. So I guess I have to look into the ignition advance curve next, but before starting to modify the distributor weights/springs, I would like to check that is advancing correctly. Does somebody have the advance curve for the 35D8 distributor? Thanks, Jens.

Hi. Jens, I had the same problem it was nothing to do with timing or compression, mine was to do with fuel starvation.
The question I have to ask is. When did you last change your fuel filter? I only kept going because I changed my fuel pump to electric. The AC pump (mechanical) is like the oil pump. POOR. Even the maintenance manual recommends renew filter after 16000 km.
Hope helps.

Interesting! The fuel pump has been replaced with an electrical, and I will replace the fuel filter now. Jens. Hi.
