Whilst working on the engine, I took the opportunity to replace the power steering hoses. Since doing so, I can hear a quiet singing which alters as I move the steering wheel. The singing is just like a kettle on a gas hob as it heats up. The oil gets very hot in the reservoir which may be normal but I haven't noticed before. Is this normal?
I did have an awful time fitting one of the hoses; it took a day and a half. No amount of lubricating helped. I had to remove the reservoir and put it in a vice. All visitors to the workshop were invited to have a go without success. I had to use a hot air paint stripper in the end to soften the rubber.

The oil does get hot if steering wheel is turned a lot. The singing could be air or just a badly supported pipe

Thanks, Phil. I dismissed air as a cause as I thought the system was self-bleeding. The piping is secure but I'll look closely at the routing.
