My interior lights rarely work at all. Occasionally the odd one will work. Last Thursday three of them came on (not the front passenger) but were very dim - basically just a glow - that I only saw because it was dark. It would be nice to have a full set of working interior lights so does this occurrence of three lights suggest to anyone where I might start looking for what is stopping them working properly?

They are all fed from the same fuse No1 RH side, if your cigar lighter works you should have the 12v present? check with a meter? then it will be a case of checking all the bullet connectors and making sure the switch contacts are clean and making a good clean earth contact?

Thank you. I have just bought a meter so this will give me a chance to try it out. My cigar lighter does not work because the wires were cut off near the dip switch by the previous owners. It is on the list of jobs to fix it.

The interior lights and cigar lighter picks up from a bunch of bullets connectors stuffed high up inside the nearside A post. They are in direct line of a corroded inner wing and leaky screen seal. Corroded door switches and dirty lamp contacts do not help either

Well, my windscreen seal is certainly very leaky. I have recently taped it up which has stopped the worst of the leaks. I will start cleaning up the connectors.

Thanks. I did see it at one point last year when I was taking the trim and carpets out to dry them.

It might be worth you buying yourself a variety box of bullet connectors and just replace the ones that are there tucked away? On a previous Rover I spent hours trying to seperate and clean them, half of them broke, the rest took ages to clean and lubricate and then they oxidise again! Bite the bullet (pun intended) and buy a bunch of new ones from a motor factor..

oh and each of the interior lights also has bullet connectors just tucked inside the headlining. Check those next if they still arent bright. Late last year I bought a new set of 4 lucas interior light units complete (£12.50 each) that came with all new bits. Very shiny

Can you please tell me where you got the lights from? They are the same as MGB and a few more cars the reproduction ones are not as good quality as the OEM Interior Light

I think headrest lights fall into the same category as hens teeth and rocking horse poo.

I've just thought, one more thing about the interior lights is the door switches themselves, quite often I have to 'flick' mine to get them to work. They are available new on ebay..
