The wiring diagrams show a three pin flasher unit is fitted to the P5 series including the coupe. (unless this was amended after the date of my manuals). Today when fitting a warning buzzer to the circuit I discovered the wiring is different and what looks like a more modern two terminal small square flasher unit is fitted. I can still use the buzzer OK by fitting a three terminal old fashioned unit and using the third terminal but I'm curious,is (or rather are) the manuals wrong?

On Search but later ones with TP coil had a 2 pin. Both types are mechanical and small wiring mods needed to swap or to fit electronic types.
Handbooks only were modified buy still had errors - WSM's were not

Many years ago someone recommended using a Lucas SFB 162 electronic unit as the original can have an erratic flash. The SFB 162 has 3 terminals although if I remember correctly a simple modification has to be made to the connections. I have one on my car and it is excellent

That is the correct one for late 5B's - standard fit on all BLMC models then and Ford used them from the late 1960's. Sold as "no delay" start and louder click

Yes that's the one fitted to mine so it seems that some manuals and handbooks are wrong. I have fitted a three terminal version and used the third terminal to drive a small buzzer. My winners don't always self cancel and I find it easy to overlook the warning lights. Thanks for the replies.

That will work but the warning lights may not or be on the wrong sides

The warning lights aren't affected and so work fine, the buzzer is a bit loud so I've buried it behind the dash.
