I just finished repairing my door cards. The stitching had rotted and I spent some hours replacing it by hand using the original holes, before doing so the vinyl which was hard in places was softened with baby oil. Some of the clips ripped out of the hardboard but these were refitted using flat headed rivets and wide washers. When finished a sealer (a commercial plumbers fitting sealer) was diluted and rubbed into the thread to strengthen it. The original hardboard which still bears some pencilled marks from the day it was made was warped but ironed reasonably flat and was then made more water resistant with a polyurethane based sealer, this also strengthens the fibres in the board. A long while ago I bought some material to cover the door pockets, the covering was missing almost entirely. The outside was cleaned and given a few thin coats of dye,I tried this on some old vinyl and it lasts well. Considering everything apart from the material on the pockets is fourty odd years old I think it looks quite good.

I give it to you Kev, you certainly do put a lot of effort into restoring the 'just' restorable components/fittings/trim on a car. I don't think I'd have the patience for a door card.
