Received my second set of 4 Jensen alloys which i will fit to the daily P5B. This set requires more work as these look shabby and the tyres are shot. After having a better look at the wheels, it shows that these are covered in a poor layer of a clear coat. I took a piece of sanding paper and sanded the clear coat of the left spoke and got to nice aluminum. It will take a fair amount of work to get these nice again but threw Ebay at GBP 180,- for the 4 wheels and GBP 80,- for the courier to ship these from the UK to Holland, i believe its a good deal as these seldom come up for sale. Will still be looking for 2 spare wheels. The car behaves very well and copes well with the winter weather. The chrome seems to cope well with the salt. However the Rostyles and wheelnut show some rustspots. The plan is to get a set of poor Rostyles silver powder coated and use these the next winter and use the Jensen alloys during the other seasons. Regards Peter

Managed to find a 5th Jensen wheel only 30km from where i live. The wheel had some damage on the the edge of the rim so i brought it to a man who weld some aluminum to these spots Removed all paint and clear coat with paint stripper and with sand paper removed most scratches and corrosion marks on the 5 spokes and the rim. The wheels are now ready for polishing. Now waiting for the arrival of the polishing grease. Peter

Polished the first rim and am very happy with the result. This is a much more rewarding job than sanding the rims with sandpaper. and another 4 to go.... Peter

Very nice job, what about the other side though ? Steve, will run out of "elbow grease" so will not polish the other side Have polished the other 3 rims. The spare rim hasn't returned from the welder I also polished the sides of the spokes and the area around the wheel nuts. Normally only the top of the 5 spokes and the outer rim are polished and the sides of the spokes are coated with paint but i believe this would give a too modern look. The non polished area's will be painted black. Peter

Andy, I use 3 different polishing disc's and 3 type's of grease. The first step is the smaller disc, hanging on the hook with the brown grease, then the disc on the right on the shaft with the pink polishing grease and the last step for high gloss is the disc on the left on the shaft with the yellow grease This weekend i picked up the fifth wheel from the welder who welded up 2 damaged area's on the rim edge. With a file i cleaned the weld and did some remaining sanding work and polished the rim. Peter

Now the polishing was finished it was time to "restore" the other area's as there was a fair amount of corrosion on the rest of the rims. The plan was to get the rims shot blasted with glass pearls and after that a layer of epoxy primer. I have a small blasting cabinet but this is too small for the rims. I put 2 layers of Duc tape over the polished area's to protect this against the shot blasting Today i picked up the rims from the shot blasting company which also put the epoxy primer on. The Duc tape protection against the shot blasting worked very good. Next job is to sand the primed area's with 400 grid. I will bring these to a friend who will put some spray filler on the area's on the front of the rims. Peter

Well I have just ordered a pair of indicator lenses which cost me £30 so if I could get that back would be good.

Hello Paul,
You are a brave man if you want to polish the "spokes" and the outer rim as looking at the condition of these wheels , you will find a lot of deep pitting. I would get these beat blasted and painted in silver/black in combination with some filler. Peter

Paul,
The wheels are not fitted yet. I bought some aluminum nuts from Charlton classic Cars. These are well made and fit well but i have to get used to the fact that these are made from aluminum. SteveP5B had a source where you can buy steel nuts. You could find this using search.
This thread showed up on the Classic Rover Forum. This shows a pair of Jensen wheels which were not so good but look nice after restoration. (http://www.classicroverforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=20892)
