Hi All, P5B Coupe - 1968, had her 3 weeks.. Have just had the bad news from my radiator man, repair needed on the front heater matrix. He says it was last repaired in 2001 and cannot guarantee the repair will succeed. I am thinking of switching to a 13 PSI radiator cap, to ease the pressure on the matrix, Thermostat can be 82 or 75, I have both ready to go. Any reason to NOT do this? Thanks in anticipation Mike

Dropping a couple of PSI will really make no difference. Why not bypass the heater matrix until you can get a decent secondhand one?.

Reducing the pressure cap would mean that she would boil earlier, probably not a good idea in the summer ! Best to bypass it
You could try David Green for a secondhand one, generally they seem to last a very long time.

Yes, a quality second hand unit is the goal, but purchase and postage to Australia is a bit steep, at the moment. I am just keen to get through our winter, (Flinders Ranges - 1 degree mornings at the moment). Only had the car a very short time and it looks like the heater has been bypassed for years! I am also wondering if the drop in pressure will prevent the rear heater from getting coolant flow? A large quantity of tartan rugs were sold with the car! Cheers for the replies.

Thanks for the compliment Big Andy!
The paintwork doesn't stand up to close scrutiny though!
It looks great from 6-10 feet, (with a lager in hand & no spectacles!).
Cheers,
Mike
