Hi all,
One of many jobs to do was to strip my dead wiper motor. All looks sound but it was almost seized with old LM grease.
Now it's all clean and ready to rebuild, what is the correct lube for the plastic gears etc? I have never heard of the ragosan? mentioned in the workshop manual.
Many thanks
Barry
Ps a pic of gunky innards for info....

I would strip it right down Barry remove the gears as they sometimes due to the old grease get stuck on the shafts also remove the bottom motor plate and the Armature as the shaft end will be full of dust and cr*p so will need washing out and lubricating, watch out for the very thin shim washers under the gears, a good lithium grease will do

All in bits On the bench John!
So castrol LM should be fine then? That was what it was packed full of although it was filthy.
I note the brushes are quite worn but ok for now. Armature seems fine and not open circuit. What's interesting is I expected some kind of thermal cut out but I can't see anything in there.
I'm wondering if the motor is the prob now. I only checked for 12v at one of the connections but having studied the wiring diagram it seems that was probably the park feed and I didn't actually check the main feed as well.
It's all worthwhile though as I will strip and clean the wheel boxes as well and then sort out the wiper positions as the last owner had no clue about the off screen parking. As part of the investigation I also found the rivet on the drivers wiper broken. After this long off the road it all needs going through.

Barry, don't forget to do the cable and wheel boxes too.

These things always get carried away don't they. While I'm in the area I'm stripping out the heater motor and shrouding for a spruce up and lick of paint.
Then while stuff is drying I'm high tailing round the back to crack on with the rear valance replacement and prep for paint. Got to make best use of summer weather for bodywork!

Motor done, reinstalled and working peachy. Not yet tackled cable and wheel boxes - they are next. I can't pull the cable by hand, it'll move easily enough if I grab the wipers.
Nb I found a piece of metal in the wiper gears-.no idea where it came from but suspect that jammed it plus filth of many years.
To all I'd say these are relatively simple to strip before you condemn them. I was shocked at the price for reconditioned ones!

Lol same for me! - after the amount of metal I've replaced it'll not see rain deliberately again!,
