There are some owners who take a real pleasure from keeping their car in the best possible condition, with its paintwork gleaming and glassy and smooth. You are probably one of these people; otherwise you would not be reading this, would you?
A sad fact is that however much you wash and polish tiny bits of dirt will almost inevitably find their way onto your car’s paintwork, and some of these will defy your best washing & polishing efforts and leave a rough, almost sandpaper like surface where once all was smooth. Industrial fallout, brake and construction dust all conspire with normal road usage to make getting that concours shine hard to achieve and maintain.
In recent times the preferred method of removing these contaminants has been by use of a clay bar and lubricant, a very effective but very time consuming task, but a product I have used recently gives results just as good but with a fraction of the time, effort and cash outlay.
The G3 Professional Body Prep Clay Mitt claims to use “an advanced rubber polymer technology to remove pollutants from paintwork and glass to leave a silky smooth surface perfectly prepared for paint renovation or waxing.” I don’t know about the technology, but I can say it does do a great job and it requires very little effort to produce a very smooth surface ready for wax.
Farécla recommend using the mitt in conjunction with their G3 Bodyshop Detailer spray as a lubricant, however I have found that using water with a shampoo & wax mix works just as well. Just rewash the car using the clay mitt instead of your normal wash mitt or sponge, wiping the surfaces until all trace of grittiness has gone. It takes little longer than an ordinary wash; I did my wife’s Focus in less than half an hour. Rinse off, and apply your choice of polish and wax onto an already glassy smooth surface.
These mitts are readily available from all the usual outlets such as Halfords, priced at around £12. Compared to the cost of a traditional clay bar and lubricant (in both time and money) the choice is easy.
Sorry if this all reads like advertising copy, but my only contact with this product and its supplier is as a satisfied and paid up customer!
