Hi Roy My plans have always been to update the old p5 in areas i thought could be improved and updated it without ruining the overall look of the car. Im going to change the rear cart springs over to a triangulated 4 bar on 2600lbs air bags. The front will have the torsion bars removed and swapped for an air ride coilover (airwaves) on a custom crossmember so the car can be very low without compromising ride quality. The old steering box and idler will be swapped for a rack and pinion system with a power column if i can get it to fit. This will then roll on a set of 18 & 20" rims with one off stainless hub caps so it should look more like an older 3 litre instead of a 3.5b. Uprated vented front discs and calipers will complete the upgrades.

Hi John, you seem to have taken my comment the wrong way! You don't have to justify your actions to me or anyone bud!! I was just surprised at the very first mention of non standard parts the thread was split.. But I understand why and I wasn't criticising, just a tongue in cheek comment I look forward to seeing the the next instalment and hopefully popping over to Wozzer for a visit.. Heres mine, as low as I can get it Wozza on standard suspension.. Attachment Deleted

Ok my eagerly awaited kit has arrived from the US of A. This is the triangulated four bar and bracket kit. At the moment all the bars are the same length but the top links will have to be shortend, at this stage the lenght is not known. This is the air bag and bracket kit. Again the bracketry will have to be altered as you cannot buy a kit for the p5, but with a little imagination and some cutting and welding this kit should be ideal, of coarse only time will tell. Woz

Do you plan for an overall lower ride height. If so how are you going to deal with the front suspension. As designed there are severe limitations to dropping it into the weeds and still maintaining viable suspension movement.

Yes i plan to run the p5 approx 3" or so lower all round and on full drop without running any bump stops i should see 7" I am removing all the old torsion bar set up complete with steering and getting a new crossmember made by wayne clarke which will have all the new parts attatched. This is a picture of one that he has built for an austin a60 van so is not the actual one that i am using as we have not finalised the details yet, but it will be similar. Woz

My plan is to have a charming rover p5 which wild ride slightly better, steer slightly better and look mad on its steel wheels. Although im changing a lot of the suspended parts unless you know what to look for the car will appear to be a fairly stock p5, that makes me very happy Woz.

I remember seeing that somewhere before, maybe it was on here. The lexus lump is becoming a firm favorite with rodders because they are easy to get at the moment and not particually expensive even if you buy a complete car. The only problem is they are quite a bit bigger than the rover lump which makes them more problematic to fit into a small engine bay. Do you know if the rover is finished ? I would like to see how it looks complete and together

Mocked up the rear suspension to see where all the brackets will fit and i am happy that with a few mods i can run it as low as possible. I jacked up the rear to see how it will look on almost full drop, unfortunately its not a great pic but hopefully you get the idea.

I hope you keep all the dimensions and any drawings for your 'bagged' rearend there could be a few interested parties.
The owner of the P5 that Neal modded is very secretive, so it's hard to know where it is currently, but l'll keep my eye out for a very quick silver P5B coupe.

This is a pic just to show the shock turrett, where it pokes through the floor, trimmed back to make room for the upper air bag bracket. This pic shows the lower 4 bar/shock bracket tacked onto the axle and the lower bar in place. This also shows the top bar mocked up in place to check it for clearance around the air bag which was fine. More soon W.

Just a very small update, i have had to shorten the lower bars by 50mm, these are the prepared components compete with internal strenghtening plug. This is it after its third tig pass, just need to blend it and then grind it to shape. Woz
