Hi i have a rover p5b coupe and the alternator is not charging i think it's dead as the ignition light will not illuminate either. I have checked the bulb and that is all working i have checked there is an ignition supply to the ignition light which there is i then checked the black and brown wire from the ignition light to Relay 6RA and there is a supply there so i disconnected the relay 6ra and bridged the wire out from the ignition light to excite the alternator but i still have nothing even with the wire bridged the ignition light still will not illuminate so i think there must be something wrong with the alternator i was thinking of buying a lucas A133 55amp i believe it is a straight swap with some alterations with the wiring could somebody tell me if this Lucas A133 alternator will fit thank you Colin.

Colin,
I have fitted a Lucas A127 which has a higher amperage and is a direct swap and is also cheap. There is a LH and RH version.

Collin,
The A133 and A127 have different body's and i am not sure If the A133 fits with the P5B bracket as it looks a little longer than the A127. The A133 is available in different amps up to 85

Hi Peter, picking up on the A127 alternator string - have read your recent article in T5, where you mentioned you changed to the A127 type. I'm interested in moving to a higher output unit and, looking on the 'well known Auction platform', they seem cheap as chips. I assume it is the left hand alternator you fit, however, what size pulley are you running, or is it the 'one the alternator came with'.
Am I right in assuming the A127 output shaft is a different diameter to the standard unit and therefore the Rover pulley won't transfer? Lastly, what changes to the wiring/charging system did you undertake to by pass the old regulator and did you fit the necessary multi-plug to connect the wiring to the alternator?
Cheers, Ken
