I've been doing some maintenance on our 'modern'vehicle...actually my wife's daily driver, a Mitsubishi Lancer Coupe. It had a slight brake shudder which is annoying, so I removed the front discs to have them machined. When I got them back I refitted them and thought I'd also bleed the complete brake system by running fresh fluid through it. My wife usually asists me with this task by pumping the pedal at the appropriate time. The driver's side was done without issue...it probably took 2 - 3 minutes. Moving to the passenger side, I hooked up a bleeding tube that drains into a glass jar with a hole in the lid. I called my wife again and we started the bleeding process. Up...down...Up...down...you know how it goes. For the life of me I couldn't work out why any fluid wasn't being expelled on the down stroke. I also realized that the PS disc wouldn't lock when she pressed down on the pedal. What on earth could be causing this? After sitting and fretting for several minutes, I asked her if she had her foot down on the pedal. She replied, "yes of course!" I then asked...having a 'light bulb' moment..."You do have your foot on the brake pedal?" She replied, "oh it's on the clutch."
The moral to the story....Don't assume anything!

My first boss used to say to me, often, ... Never assume. 45 years on, it still hasn't fully sunk in.
In fact Vince, this was just around the corner from where you live.
