Can anyone tell me the correct sequences for adjusting the doors I have the shims. ie do you adjust the doors to fit without the lock plate then put the lock plate on? How do you ajdust the window frames, i have the shims where do they go. I can see the shim at the bottom of the post. What are the gap sizes between the door, door frame and the car body.
Thanks Karl

Get the door opening/closing correctly without the lockplate and, if the door has been stripped without the window frame. You may or may not need the hinge shims at this stage if at all. Fit the lock plate loosely but tight enough to allow it to remain in position and carefully close the door. Its matter of trial and error of adjusting the lock/hinges to get the shutting and latching easily without it catchin on the door frame or lock. If new rubbers have been fitted this process may have to be done again as the rubbers bed down.
Only then adjust the frame using shims at either end at top and bottom to give equal gaps all round. The shms at the top are hiiden under the stainless end caps. They are not always needed.
These are hand built cars virtually and its matter of adjusting everything till it works and looks right with window strips /door gaps all lining up it take some time.
If there has been no sill/door post post and the doors belong to the car the waist strip should line up with the wings otherwise the clips may have to be removed and realigned.
Its not a difficult job just very time consuming but there is nothing like the sound of a properly closing P5 door that just needs pushing gently to close it and latch it.
Note that the Zero Torque door looks are very sensitive to proper lock plate adjustment otherwise the push button on the window sill may not work or the lock fail to open

Many thanks. I am in the process of fitting new rubbers. The doors do seem to be the original doors.

They will certainly require some adjustment then given past reoprts of the fitment of new rubbers

I would adjust the doors before fitting new rubber. Ensure the gap is adequate and the same all round the door. Then fit the new rubber, but be warned !!! The door may be difficult to close as these are 'pattern' parts and nothing like the originals, but they should bed in.
