I have used both and never had any problems, when changing to electronic, I either buy a spare one and keep it in the glove box or just put the points setup in the glove box, that way if the electronic ignition fails you can always get home.

Both my Lumenitions failed within 2 years and I reverted back to points 15 years ago

Both my Lumenitions failed within 2 years and I reverted back to points 15 years ago Probably too high an output coil and/or alternator voltage Phil. These are the 2 primary issues during initial setup that affect these after market electronic modules (the type of trigger is irrelevant) Always check the power output to the coil with the engine running. Often the voltage to the coil can be at or near 15v sometimes more...this cooks the module in a short time and kills it. Add appropriate resistors in the power feed to the coil to contain voltage to no more than 13v with the engine running. Bypass the resistors on the cranking circuit during startup. This additional voltage is very short term and counters the electrical drain of cranking a cold engine. Setup correctly the modules last for decades (2 and a half on my Piranha module) Bigandy why not look at at an Aldon Amethyst progammable module especially if you have a high comp motor. You can still retain the points and literally dial out any pinging. Compact and very user friendly.

Compact and very user friendly. I've been running an Aldon Amethyst unit in conjunction with a Powerspark dizzy on my P5B for about 3 years without problems. The dual programmable curve set up was useful when switching from petrol to LPG (which I have now binned).

I have had Luminition for about 40 years and no problem - yet although the points are still sitting in the boot, just in case. The only problem is if you have an armoured coil, I had to fit a 'push' switch from a constant live to power the ignition when the key is turned
