I thought it was anodised aluminium.

I find polishing the grille badge with Autosol brings it up really well but then it dulls again after time. Now I have a replacement grille badge (P5B) which has been painted in a bronze / gold finish and it looks spot-on, so I'll be fitting that soon.
As regards the centre 'pillar' I think its anodised aluminium, very difficult to get re-anodised so I would opt to remove it, shot-blast and powder coat it in silver - tough as old boots and very durable.
Cheers

I have covered this one before on the old chat board. If you want to spruce up the centre badge, you can get a very good gold paint aerosol from any art/hobby shop. Four coats will bring it up to almost its original gilt colour. The centre piece is silver anodised and it can be re-finished by any place that does anodising. I had mine done because it was chipped and had the usual dents in it. They were rolled out prior to anodising.
Pat, the nearest metal finishers to you may be Wycombe Plating, but I'm sure there must be some available close to Slough.
