Simply google "rust in a Rover P5B" and then look at the images but make sure that you take off your rose tinted specs first Take someone who knows how the cars structure is put together. If you can't find any rust, you're not looking hard enough! Sorry to sound a bit negative but these cars are notorious rust-buckets 👍👍 Apparently it's all been de-rusted🙈 But there are a few small bubbles around the headlight! Is failed mots in the past due to rust, but has photographic evidence that it's been sorted & passed mots since👀 Had many p6's back in the day and a few SD1's all suffered from rust, but that's British cars for you!! Thanks for taking the time to reply👏

Welcome to the forum. I don't think the rust issue is uniquely British - most cars built before the 1980's were poorly designed (in terms of rust traps) and even more poorly protected. I also have a 1972 Alfa, so have some experience there! It's worth Googling for Rover P5B buyers guides (or look here), as there are several spots that are most prone to rust. Also worth taking a magnet with you and doing a bit of surreptitious poking to make sure that shiny paint doesn't hide too much filler. As most guides will tell you, the mechanicals are the least of your worries - body and trim can cost by far the most to restore. Good luck!

Hi Trev, I have 5 P5/P5b's here that you could look at to warn you of the rust pockets and problems that occur with these cars. We are welding new sills onto a P5b coupe which will then be ready for sale on completion. I also have a P5b coupe that's ready for MOT next week, good body, just a few areas to improve on. Where are you based? You are welcome to pop in for a look tomorrow if you are in East Anglia at any stage. David Green 07713 785619

Hi Trev welcome to the forum and I hope you have a lot of fun with your Rover I have had mine since last June and it is now on its way to being sorted out although it was in good shape when I got it. The main problem at the moment is getting the windscreen seal replaced to stop water getting in but it will be done soon. I must say that I have found the other members of the P5 club and other forum users very helpful and friendly. Good luck.
