I'm Bram and 23 years old and i'm living in the Netherlands. Three and a half years ago i was verry ill. I had a special blood disease, i had to go a major bone marrow transplantation( stemcell). Im now recovering from it and its getting slowly better and better. Before i was getting ill i had a vw beetle (what i have restored), but i had to sell him. But now its getting beter with me and i want to have a another oldtimer again. And a week ago i saw a Rover P5 3 litre from 1963 at a local garage. So i went to look at it.. and it was a very solid car (except a view minor rust spots)! And the engine runs good! So i was falling in love with it what a beautifull car! So i bought my first British car!!! Im so happy with it! And its a original delivered car in the Netherlands! But a view things need to been done to pass the m.o.t. (APK in dutch). Because the car stood still a long time. But it is a nice project. What things needs to be done: Leeking power assist. Brakes needs to be checked Fuel hoses needs to be replaced New tires Some wiring needs to be checked Wassed Interior Maybe a view more things. My first priority is to get it technical in a good condition so i pass the M.O.T. (APK in dutch). So i can have a driveable project. And maybe i can get also some more information here at the Rover forum! Because im a beginner with British cars. And im looking for garages or store were i can get parts here in my living place the Netherlands.

Welcome to the forum, my niece had Leukemia about 4 years ago when she was 19. It was a very tough time for her and the family but the treatment she received was excellent and she recently had her last bone marrow check. I really hope that you continue to improve. The Rover will certainly give you something to concentrate on and it looks a good solid car. They are quite easy to work on and the Workshop Manual leads you through what ever it is that you are working on.
If you have a question just post it on the forum and we will do our best to answer it.

Welcome to the forum. You seem to have stumbled upon the best car that Rover ever made. I am not alone on this forum with this opinion, although V8 owners may grumble a bit. Congratulations. Are you going to be doing the work yourself?

Welcome to the forum. I also live in Holland and know one of the previous owners of your car and had the car in my workshop some time ago. It should not be difficult to get a new MOT on this car but there was a lot work on the interior to be done. Good luck with the work on it
Regards
Peter

@ lagainThanks for your message i hope its going well with your niece! Yes, it is going very well, thank you, it was very tough for her and she missed a year at university, but went back the following year and finished her art course and got her degree. She has now had her last check up and her lovely long hair has grown back. I am sure that all the other forum users would join me in wishing you well for the future. George

Good on you Bram. Congratulations on both your recovery and your purchase of a fine English car. You're young and I imagine enthusiastic about your new purchase. I imagine you can go 2 ways with your project being either a conservative resto or something slightly more intriguing. Looking forward with interest to see what you do beyond the basics. Either way...enjoy it, it's your project.

George Thats very nice to hear, and i have great respect for your niece that she passed her university after the disease!! Furtunatly i passed my exams before the disease, but my school difficulty was much lower . At the moment at this time i suffer many from fatigue, so i hope the Rover is a good way to recover from it. I hope my English is good enough. But thanks for whishing me luck!! It feels good!

I hope thats can be done.

17 days ago i placed my first message here. Im very busy with the car and i have done a view things on these 17 days.
First thing i have done was the double fuel pump. It was leaking and the 2nd end of the pump wasn't working. So i have rebuild the pump with 2 rebuild kits. With the new parts and also some tuning of the points it works great again and no leaks! A nice first step in this project!
After this i replaced the fuel lines and i added hose clamps on each end of the lines. And i replaced the rubber of the fuel filter. Also this problem is solved and no fuel leaks.
Together with my dad i have worked on the wiring, he is a electrical engineer and that came in handy.
We fixed the dashboard lights, we fixed the horn and we fixed some bad wiring. Among other things we gave the relais of the horn a another place because it was hanging on a dangerous place right under the fuel filter!! Is that original???
I missed a part of the air cleaner what holds the air cleaner it self so we welded a temporary fix. Because the air was not filtered.
Pictures comes later.
I am very pleased with the work we have done so far. The next step are the brakes.

Hi Bram, could you tell me what inside diameter fuel hose you used? I'd also be interested in what SAE you chose to resist ethanol. Yes, i used the size 8mm (metric) for the fuel lines from and to the fuel pump and the fuel lines for tank venting are 10mm (metric). I don't know the SAE from the fuel line but i have asked the seller if they are right, he says they are right for use with Ethanol holding petrol.

Sorry for the late update..
But in the meantime i'm still working on my Rover P5! Last week i fitted my birthday present (3 may was my birthday) on the car. Five new tires are mounted including the spare wheel. And yesterday i have fitted new torsion bar rubbers. And i started with mounting a new steering ball joint cover, but it is a rainy day today so i hope i can finish that tomorrow.
Two ball joint boot covers are also damaged but im waiting to replace these two because next week on friday my car goes to a 'pre' MOT so i can make a checklist and i than i know exactly what to do for passing the MOT..
So i have not to do a double job if there are more things to do.. Hopefully there will not be too much!
I've asked the garage to change the brake fluid and replace the rear brake hose. Because i want to have the brakes safely and bleeding the system correctly..
Furthermore i think the brakes are in a good condition, because i have checked them. On front there already two new brake hoses and the brake pads/discs are good. Rear shoes are also good. I hope that new brake fluid and a new brake hose is enough.
Pictures are coming later..

Sorry for the late update. But in the mean time i have worked on the car a lot.
I have done the 'pre' MOT, the are view things thats needs to be done to pass the MOT.
- A bit of welding - Steering rod buffer needs to be replaced and a ball joint boot rubber. - Power assist steering oil leak needs to be fixed - Brakes has to much braking difference
In the last weeks i have worked on the brakes. I replaced the rear brakes, rear shoes and brake cylinders and the brake hose. After that i bleed the system but it did not work. The master brake cylinder was not good, so i put new rubbers in it, that produce not a good result. So to be sure i have ordered a complete new one.
Hope i can assembly the new one soon.
Also i have fixed the door locks. Some electrical things. And i've made a begin to replace all of the door rubbers. The front doors are done now.
