Hi all, we have a 1971 p5b saloon that has just passed mot yippee but on trying to restart after the test needed to be jump started. So re charged the battery and tested the voltage going back in to be 13.8 volts when revving engine which I believe shows that the alternator is working . The problem is with the ignition light which is not coming on. Am I right in thinking the likely cause is the 3aw? I will check the wiring between the alternator to the 3 aw and from the 3aw to the ignition bulb hope you. Can help as the first show of the year is next weekend and we wouldn't like to miss it.

It sound like the 3AW Chris very easy to damage you can carefully turn back the can at the base and see if it has parted you can put it back with no damage

The alternator warning light control - it looks like a flasher can. Only P5B's have them

Took the 3aw apart and found it to be damaged. Ordered a replacement and it's on it's way .
