Whilst investigating something in the driver's footwell, I discovered a previously unseen push/pull switch, which can be seen right in the centre of the attached photo! It's position is under the shelf and immediately beneath the steering column. I am unsure if it is something that has been fitted after the car was made, as I can find no reference to it in either the Owners manual or WSM. It doesn't appear to be an imobiliser, as it does not stop the ignition from working. Has anyone out there got one of these and know what it is for please? (I thought I would ask before dismantling everything to investigate further) Tarnowl. Attachment Deleted

My first thought was an immobilizer switch as they were very popular in the '70s. Perhaps that what it was originally but it's just been disconnected?
Does the car have an electric fan, if so an over-ride switch? The location, tucked out of the way and not immediately obvious would certainly point to an immobilizer.

Hi Tony, No, my P5B doesn't have an electric fan. I too thought that it could be an immobiliser at first, but it does not stop the ignition or the fuel pump. Tarnowl

Maybe all us Rover owners have all got a strange switch on our cars but we haven't found them yet, it could be a way of transporting us back to the 70s when the world was full of Rovers and life was simpler. Or more likely it's a case of me finally losing the plot.

probably means following the wires back, could be anything.
I have a similar switch for my electric fuel pump

Shouldn't this be in the Electrical section?
