Sorry to hear that Glenn........but I am not entirely suprised.
A while ago I was going to get some made by a business contact abroad, and I asked on this forum if anyone was interested. Only a couple of the usual forum users responded, so in the end I did not bother.
The other thing I was going to do was to get the air intake grille that sits under the windscreen re- made, as that seems to be another item that most cars need, but again I decided not to bother. Especially as the initial costs of this would be somewhat higher.
Sadly, it seems to me that the vast majority of owners of these cars are not willing, or do not want, to spend any money on improvement. Either that, or they want everything for nothing, and hate the thought of anyone making a couple of quid out of them. Probably the same ones that bemoan the fact that "Take Five" is getting thinner, and contribute nothing.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I have 12 pairs left and I will run them down in my own time. (I don't mean laying them on the floor and driving forward and reversing over them whilst tears roll down my face) I still feel if anyone saw them and compared them to an original pair they would see how good they were. The ones I had made after the initial 10 were even better. The original 10 had a slight polish ripple due to the shiny surface. It was hardly noticable but these new ones were spot on. Sods law is I will get a load of enquiries once production has stopped I find it weird though that there must be 1000's of these cars still around but as smallfry stated the owners probably don't want to spend on them. Anyway, I am attending the Eastern Rally this year as it is only 10 mins down the road at Wimpole Hall, so I will take a pair with me.

Glenn Surprisingly, there are still many P5 owner drivers who are not members of our club and who do not realise that you have had these re-made. I am amazed at how many non-club Rover P5's there are. Well done for doing what you did, don't be down hearted, they will sell eventually. Regards Adrian

Glen, with a finishing date on the horizon, you will probably get a rush of late orders. People always want it when its going. This forum is a good example; an initial 6+ months of total inactivity and when a cut off date was given... well the rest is history. Anyway I think you should be applauded for the time and effort you have made in re manufacturing these items. This is the main reason the club only offers spares that are applicable to MOTs. Now if the cars were valued at £25k, many more owners would be willing to add that finishing touch. As the saying goes 'You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink' Magazine is at the printers - expect delivery around 25th of this month. A little late due to holidays. Managed to fill it this month and not one old or repeated article to be seen, though the response from members to requests for articles has been, shall we say, normal

It's too late Freddy. I rang the SAMARITANS today and they hung up on me To be honest I'm not that bothered but I do feel that owners are missing an opportunity. Maybe when they appear at rallies the phone may start to ring. I can always re evaluate the situation. I would not want to dissapoint an owner if they made a request as they really do set the sill off a treat. (sorry, i'm pitching again) ;D

I will put a contribution in which will also show the new sill trims being fitted plus the other restoration work.

Glenn I have been giving this a little thought and there are probably many reasons why people are not buying...........And here is mine!
My car is off the road at the moment, and I dont actually see a time at present when it is likely, if ever, to return. To be honest, I am still not sure what I am going to do with it (the car is an "it", nor a "her") anyway, so although I would be happy to have a pair, it would be pointless at the moment.
Maybe many peeps are in this situation, or in the middle of an expensive chequebook restoration..........I dunno.
I have to say though, from my point of view, now that you have someone who can make them AND repeat the order, it would be a crying shame not to go on.

I understand what you have said and agree. I was contemplating waiting for 10 orders to come in, and then get them all made at once but that wouldn't work as the 10th order would probably be weeks away from the 1st order, and that would not be fair on the customer(s). I am not under pressure to re order only when I need them therefore I'll keep it ticking over for now and then revaluate the situation after the next batch have sold.

I have to say I'm tempted to get a pair. What is involved in the fitting?

You all seem to be talking about these sill trims as if the only cars with them on, are ones that GlennR has supplied. There are many cars out there which do have the original sill trims, and I would say the majority, although I havent counted every car; and the cars which don't have the trims could be because they have been taken off to put onto other, more presentable cars. I think you should also realise (although you all seem to think that the sill trims are the best thing since sliced bread) that there are many reasons why people arent buying these reproductions- possibly because people don't know what they're missing (!), they cannot afford to buy them, or because they did not realise a batch of reproductions had been made- not everybody who owns a P5 is in the club, or on the internet. I would like to thank GlennR for putting in the effort to have these new trims made, and I do believe that they will sell, but it will just take time for people to know that they are available, and to go and buy some.

I know of one car that is missing the sill trims but the owner is too mean to buy any and fit them. Says the cars won't go any faster with them will it? He only changes the oil once every five years 'cos he never goes far in it!!
Bahhhh humbug, just can't please every one!

I have almost finished rebuilding the jacking point/front wing - I will then post a few pictures to show just how good these sill trims look.
There are a lot of P5B's without trims and even some of those with them are damaged, holed drilled, bent, stone peppered.
They are rust traps but then the whole car is one - the stainless fixings will help a lot in keeping sill rust stains at bay

I HAVE AT LAST REBUILT THE O/S FRONT JACKING POINT WHICH ENTAILED REBUILDING THE DOOR POST BOTTOM AND PLATING INNER/MIDDLE AND OUTER SILLS + BOTTOM WING REPAIR PANEL eX WADHAMS. This means I can now fit the new sill trim - I have put some pictures of how it looks without and and with. They really set the car off and they look excellent. If you see our car at rallies your are welcome to inspect and I recommend you get a set whlist you still can See next but one post for resized photos

Hi Phil, the photo's are very large and are mottled. Can you send them to me via my e mail and I will resize them to 72dpi and then send them back to you to be re posted. You should see a big difference in the size/quality. What I can see looks good though but they don't do you're photo's enough justice. Many thanks.

Glenn I see the trim go accross the front wing join, why I ask is the old 68 coupe I have for spares (which is rapidly dissapearing) has a short sill trim from the sill join to the front wing edge was this changed at some time? they look great by the way and I look forward to getting mine.

This sounds like an owners modification The trim has always been a complete strip and should not be in two parts. I'd love to see a photo of it though. Any more suggestions anyone??
