thankyou for the valid info, so is it a case of 1/cutting a piece of hose and pushing it on tightly over the threaded end of the lever and then 2/ push the black knob on to the hose, if so would i glue the bits or just rely on push fit ?

Put the rubber in the knob, and then screw the knob on so that the lever cuts a thread in the rubber.

Does anyone know when they changed the knob from round to the later shaped one?

Does anyone know when they changed the knob from round to the later shaped one? It was pretty early on, and was definitely before the selector pattern changed.
